New additions to Vodacom’s Top Up range

Pretty cool, any idea if you have the original family top up, if u'd be able to convert it to per second billing?

The ‘per second’ packages are available on 24 month contracts as well as monthly packages*
Is there a missing footnote?

Looks as if Family TopUp and Business TopUp have been replaced by TopUp 135 and TopUp 315 respectively...

MTN don't seem to offer these kind of packages and imo are way behind CellC and Voda?

nice vodacom, much more flexable...ok mtn your response?

Just want to make sure I understand these Top Up packages completely.
If I take the Talk 120 at R315/month you get 120 anytime minutes which even if you use all 120 minutes on the most expensive calls (Vodacom to MTN / Cell C Peak @ R2.30/min) you only get 120*R2.35=R282 worth of calls.
With the Top Up 315 you also pay R315/month but you get the actual R315 worth of calls you can use as you like, you don't have to worry that you inclusive minutes are wasted on off peak or other cheaper calls, so in the end you get way more than the 120 minutes of Talk 120. (Max minutes R315/R1.02=308 minutes if all of the R315 are used on the cheapest calls Vodacom to Vodacom / Telkom Off-Peak @R1.02/min)
Why would anyone then go for the Talk package over the Top Up package? Free phones offered seem to be the same on the two. Am I missing something or is it the way I see it?

AFAIK MTN was actually first to intoduce these types of packages.

They have the MyChoice 75, 150, 300 and 705.

And with their packages you have the option of being billed like on a normal contract after your threshold is reached, so you won't have to go buy airtime once you've reached your threshold.

More likely than not you'll have the option to migrate to one of these new Top Up packages when your current Family Top Up contract expires. Then again if the current Family / Business Top Up flavours aren't done away with with the launch of these new ones, you may not have a choice in the matter ;)

That's what I'll probably do if I don't switch to MTN instead. Having to pay a full R2-70 for a 3 second call to let my GF know I'm waiting in the parking lot is enough to put a sour taste in my mouth for Vodacom. Of course, they could redeem themselves by finally building that new base station in my neighbourhood they've been delaying. It would be great to have 3G coverage so I'm not solely dependant on ADSL at home.

MTN offered these packages first. My wife is on MyChoice 300. I remember doing a cost/usuage analysis for her at the time (about a year ago), and based on the flexibility and cost-efectiveness of the MyChoice package over comparitive offereings she moved from Vodacom to MTN.

A pity MTN aren't more progressive in the broadband arena.

send a please call me?

Thought of that - but thanks for the suggestion. Problem is that one way or another a call would have to be made anyway. Not to mention that the please call me doesn't mean necessarily "I'm waiting in the parking lot for you" as I could be caught in traffic or working late or whatever. An SMS won't help as the cellphone is normally turned-off when my GF is busy with meetings or in conference etc. So that leaves me having to call the office line - even if my GF isn't there, I can leave a message with co-workers and the word gets to her within minutes. That normally takes me about 30 seconds but i still get charged the full rate regardless.

Per second billing is what kept me on prepaid for so many years until I got tired of recharging all the time - and getting a new phone upgrade is a tempting incentive :)
