Cellular networks want another number portability delay

Don't be surprised if you see massive contract promotions in the next few months.

hey, even cellc's wants a delay, and they have the most to win

They were probably bullied.

Fine them each a few million a day and see how long they want to drag it out for.

Of course the Incompetent Communications Alliance of South Africa wont do that. I'd love to tag their building with a giant pwned.

Seems most are happy with the status quo as it is, barring perhaps Cell C and Virgin which seem more concerned about the potential influx of new customers and the system not working, hence impacting negatively on their own reputation in the industry.
What adds weight to this is the fact that Cell C mention that MTN and Voda have to be dragged into doing anything regarding MNP.

By citing the late delivery of the database the operators have transferred the blame to Grintek, which won the contract to set up the switching process and operate the database.
Yet declaring the problem a technical issue contradicts industry expert Ewan Sutherland, who says number portability “isn’t that difficult”.
Gladiator mentioned Grintek being the 'spanner in the works' last week (inside track ;) ), but is Sutherland talking nonsense?

transferred the blame to Grintek
I don't know what could have possessed them to choose Grintek, but it is highly likely that they did deliver late. But that is ultimately the cellular operators' problem since they obviously didn't give Grintek any incentive to deliver on time.

Number portability has already been implemented elsewhere. If Vodacom et al didn't know what to do they could have acquired the information they needed. Vodacom is essentially Vodafone SA anyway.

I can't wait for the day when I can move over my number. It will be so much fun, calling the cellphone company asking for a transfer. They tell me it will be done in 24 hours. The next day my phone is not working... Then CellC is pointing fingers at Vodacom and vodacom is giving the blame to the database.

Aaah then I will remind myself, I live in South Africa *Total Bliss* :D

[bollocks]By citing the late delivery of the database the operators have transferred the blame to Grintek . . [/bollocks]

Stop trying to bass the buck. Stand up, admit your incompetence and take your lumps with some dignity.

PS - any chance of a new tag (as above)?

They either stalling cause they havent figured out how milk the cash cow yet...or they havent put the systems into place.besides passing the blame/buck is way easier.;)

I WANT TO PORT!

Grintek presented to ICASA that they have these hot consultants on the MNP project. Where are they now?
ICASA must fine the operators and they push the fine to Grintek.

I WANT TO PORT
