South African broadband users number over 300 000

Currently 256Kbps+ is what we are looking at (ICASA and all :D). This therefore excludes CellC & Virgin EDGE...

If that's articles true it means close to half of broadband subscribers get their broadband via wireless means which basically is an indication of Telkom's failure in the broadband market. I would hazard to guess (and if someone can confirm or deny it please do) that in countries with decent broadband options the ratio of fixed wire to wireless broadband access is closer to 8:2 than our 1:1.
 
300 000 users in spite of Telkom, imagine how many there'd be if we had a normal Telecoms market.

None of the other regs have been adhered to - why bother with this one?
 
So they approaching 200k.. I wonder if there will be another price cut. I doubt it tho, i mean thats why they stopped reporting numbers cause then we demand econmies of scales they claim. Then again nxt time will probably be another bundle or upgrade we don't want.
 
Can you really call 256k and up broadband anyway. I'd say by intl standards anything less than a megabit isn't true broadband.

What good is broadband when the bandwidth is so expensive?

Telkom not releasing accurate stats works both ways. Without knowing exact numbers, Telkom can always play down the mass exodus of home customers when Neotel offers broadband services to the general public next year. That way it doesn't look as embarresing for them :p
 
Sentech’s MyWireless offering, another wireless broadband service, is continuing to struggle with only a few thousand subscribers. There are no official figures available, but an estimated 4 000 subscribers is the current guestimate.

Thats about 3900 more than I expected ;) But seriously, no wonder these guys are crying for money. And they still go and chase away some of the few customers they have by changing their product line so drastically.
 
We don't have real broadband in SA, at least not comparable to other countries, how about we call it "very fast PSTN" or something

Oh well, so now we have a number of how many people are being violated ... :eek: :sick:
