ADSL Rumours....

Hi,
A friend of mine works at an ISP and he heard a rumor about ADSL:
Incoming ADSL Line Rental Cuts and/or ADSL Line Upgrades...

The rest was too good to be true... :eek:

Does anyone know anything about this maybe?

You aren't very clear with the rumor are you? It's like putting something on my tongue and ripping it off before I could taste?

What's the bloody rumor? :D
 
Okay cool, at the same price as we pay currently? It's bogus, 384 and 512 pay different costs, I'm not paying more, screw telscum!
 
What about the 3Gb cap? Any rumours about better or maybe uncapped at affordable prices?

RUMOR: The aim for the 1M & 4M only ADSL Lines is for next year only. They would be available at entry-level prices. 384 could be upgraded soon to 512...

But this would not make sense. There are people that cannot even synch at the full 1M line speed, and I’m not even talking about 4M line speed!
Also, how would Telkom be able to sustain all the users using either a 1M or 4M line?
Hxx,good question about the caps. I know nothing about that yet. A 3GB cap would be almost useless with a 4M line.

I think they cannot aim to do this by the end of 2007.
2010 Sounds like a more realistic year to aim for.

ALL* Local should become uncapped...But he gave me the line that “Telkom does not have the equipment to differentiate between International and Local traffic”. And I don’t believe that!

Within a few months (read YEARS) any ISP “would be able to sell ADSL Lines”.

I assume this would be steps they want to take to reduce the effect that NeoTel will have on their precious....o so precious Profits next year.

Make that 3! Uncapped Local has been Law in SA for some time now. But remember, Telkom is above the law.

I dont believe it either because until just last year local used to be uncapped!

I have something in my house that differentiates between local and external traffic - it's called a router. Perhaps I can sell Telkom a few.

back in 1998 i heard a rumor of cheap telecoms....

Well rumour or not, Telkom would be thinking of getting everyone to 1024K or upto 4mbit.

Reason :
1.IPTV services (more money to make

2.ISP accounts (if you got capped within' 2 days or a week, u will buy another account or topup, or maybe even buy bigger sized cap each month as a standard maybe 10gig or so)
