Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a Samsung Smart TV soon. The main reason why I want to get is it's streaming capabilities, but I heard mixed reviews around this. I want stream video from my desktop PC to the TV (quality is normally around 720p)

Some people say it is to slow and of now real use - is this true?
I currently have the normal Telkom Netgear WIFI router - do I need any special hardware router or PC wise to make it work properly?

Then I need suggestion on which one to get? The maximum size I can go is about 40" (due to size of my living room) and my budget is in the 8 - 10K range (less will be better :) )

Thanks for your help

I have not had any issues with streaming to my Samsung TV, my tv is about 3 years old so not sure on the newer models, I have installed "Samsung All Share" on my pc much cleaner interface on the TV. My TV and PC are both connected via Lan as I have experienced it was slow when I connected to a wireless pc to stream.

I've got friend with a Samsung Smart TV (about 3 years old) and he uses it for streaming stuff from his PC. Everything is completely wireless, but works flawlessly. If possible, try to make use of 802.11n which will be quite a bit faster. Worst case scenario, you'll need to run a cable from your router to your TV, and from your router to your PC, which is nowhere close to a train-smash.

I'm also using a fully wireless setup, though I don't have a smart TV. I've got a HT-PC running Plex Media Server, a Roku 3 streaming media player, tablets, phones and laptops, and they all connect wirelessly to the network. Everything works great, though my setup is full 802.11n. Also, the devices are not spread out over a very wide area, so coverage is not a big problem.

I actually was'nt aware you can stream video from your pc directly to your Samsung Smart tv without some kind of third party hardware.

Yes, I have a Samsung Smart TV. Streaming works perfectly. I use the Plex app or just a media share on my PC.

We're using a DLNA server app (serviio) on a Win 8 PC, streaming with Allshare on our Samsung smart BDP, via wifi. I've found a few cases where the player couldn't decode a movie, but otherwise the playback has been excellent. I'm not overly impressed by the Allshare UI, but the convenience outweighs the minor hassle

I find the interface itself to be ridiculously slow and clunky. Often so slow that you think you didn't press the button while in the meanwhile it's still thinking about it.

Therefore I highly recommend rather having a Media-centre-in-a-box solution which is infinitely more feature rich and less drama.

Even Netflix is slow ass on my Samsung E5500. It's no problem when it actually gets to streaming, it's just the interface itself that sucks.

I've got the Plex App installed on my TV which is infinitely better than any crappy DLNA solution.

I've got a year old Smart tv and stream to it from a WD live book. The one thing I dislike is that there is no ability to pause/rewind etc. I'm assuming perhaps if you used an app you could though? Otherwise it works flawlessly

I have a samsung series 6 led tv. I think it is 2011. I stream from my pc. it works perfect. I use a streaming software called serviio on Windows 7. I am connected directly to the router. I stream 1080p 3d movies as well. I have no problems. Mkv files also works perfect with serviio.

pause, forward and rewind all work via the remote.
