Affordable broadband from Neotel?

I'm still going to stick with "Optimistically cautious" with Neotel.

There's been a lot of talk about competition and price reductions but with Neotel not wanting to get into any sort of price war with Telkom I'm a little skeptical.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
 
I'm sure their portion will be affordable, but what about the last mile they have to rent from Telkom for 2 years? And what about when they have to make up for Telkom's lack of community support by installing infrastructure in underserviced areas?

Stop talking until you deliver and then GIVE us prices!!!!

Go to moneyweb.co.za and look for investing 101, or moneyweb powerhour. he had the interview with Alec Hogg on tuesday i think. may be wrong. I read it a couple of days back but im too lazy to go look for the link for u :)
 
There seems to be a lack of discussion from Neotel around the 'cap' and bandwidth allocation issues, it's all speed and service waffle.

That all amounts to sweet nothing really without affordable bandwidth and plenty of it.

Conveniently sidestepping the issue to make a big impact on launch or to do as Telkom has done and make oodles of cash out of the lifeblood of the internet?

Telkom could do that in a blink of the eye anyway.

I read this as meaning: "We plan to offer general consumers ADSL2/2+ at current ADLS prices." -> If that's true, I'll definitely consider them over delayed GTS and BPL.

Why do they not be upfront about this...it would be a BRILLIANT marketing ploy if they said..."Guys, we're only selling to the public then so that YOU the PUBLIC do not have to pay Telkom's insane international bandwidth fees as the SAT3 landing station is then open to all"

I'd sign a 2 year contract RIGHT NOW with them if they made a comment like that! It would show they mean business!!!

Where on earth did you pull ADSL2/2+ out of? :confused:

The "common man" cannot even afford dial up so even a slow speed wifi connection could be construed as "a higher speed of internet". For ADSL2/2+ they're going to have to run a whole lotta copper before the people can even get phone lines.
 
I will for one at least give them a chance. They are doing much more than they are talking. Releasing price plans will be moronic. You guys can at least think a bit before speaking. They aren't going to do anything for you specifically until sometime next year. We can complain then. :p
 
With all this talk from NeOTel, of how broadband could be 66%..75% less exorbitant than it currently is, I do hope that NeOTel intends to deliver a broadband service that actually is reasonably priced - otherwise NeOTel is simply setting itself up for a fall from a dizzy height.

The lack of clarity from NeOTel, at this extremely late point in time, gives me the impression that even NeOTel is uncertain about access to the local wired loops, and as a result has had to hedge all its bets on 800MHz for CDMA2000, simply bcos there is less than a snowball's chance in hell of being allowed to offer at least ADSL2+ imminently in the next 20 years...
