Only a matter of time really :sick:

Exact details of the accident were sketchy, but eye-witnesses said that Public Works MEC Lydia Johnson’s high-speed motor cavalcade, which was racing to get to the Legislature in Pietermaritzburg for Premier S’bu Ndebele’s state of the province address, was forced to brake suddenly when it encountered a slower vehicle near the Pavilion shopping centre in Westville.

Yeah, it's a symptom of the growing sense of self-importance and paranoia. Self-importance because they expect everyone to get out of the way, and paranoia because they insist that they need to travel that fast in order to be safe. Funny thing, speeding's not saef for anyone else...

Actually, I'd almost say that our government officials are an argument for the idea that speed causes accidents, if it weren't for the extreme carelessness exercised as well.
 
I was on the N3 yesterday and there were those signs saying "Don't fool yourself speed kills" :rolleyes:

I was surprised how well the traffic behaved coming back to PMB around rush hour with only the odd trucks drag racing each other down the straights. One of them actually was chatting on a cell phone :eek: .

Ironic the closest I came to a crash was in PMB itself when a fat mumma steped out in front of the car blissfully unaware of me. Luckily the hooter startled her enough to back away just in time. The fact she had a baby on her back made it all the more chilling.:sick:

As they say you're most likely to have a crash just a few km's from home.
 
I loathe those convoys. I travel from Durban to Hillcrest quite a bit and everytime I see these expensive German sedans & SUVs with little blue lights in there sun visors and dash travelling at high speeds, I ring my steering wheel a little harder knowing that I'm indirectly paying for those idiots joyrides.
 
What is the law regarding this? If there is no police escort do we have to move for them?
 
Hmm... so I can just stay right in front of them on the principle that without a police escort they could just be businessmen trying to dodge traffic?

Right on. Pity I always travel faster than general traffic...
 
I have heard and read of too many people who nearly have accidents when these cavalcades pass them. I hope that one day one of these c_nts dies a horrible flaming death! Never realy seen one, but I promise I will give them caque.....

And you're on a bike;) They would just swat you off the road if you tried to block them. :D

I guess this is another reason why they don't want the public to own guns. Every time they go out it would be into a hail of gunfire :cool:
 
I've survived accidents before. Having a convoy run over me would be a new one though...

In Lagos, for a fee you can have a 'proper' police escort from the airport to your hotel for fee. I wonder how long it will be before we see that here.

In Moscow you can "arrange" to have a blue light put on your car which then entitles you to disregard all traffic laws. I don't think we're too far away from that either.
 
Does the banana version stay on the road though, cos the version in gauteng uses the emergency lane, and that's not wrong, it's setting an extremely baaaad example, and is disgusting.

I don't see how that is different from here. I see a lot of black german cars with little blue lights that obviously believe they are above the law.

I was watching a show on T.V about armoured cars for VIP's and those things not only weigh a hell of a lot( not good if it hit's you at a hundred and plenty) but they come with all kinds of fancy and dangerous gizmos for "self defence".

Now if you add it all up:

Incompetence
above the law
paranoid
disrespect safety of other citzens
heavy armoured car
Speed
Dangerous gizmos

Think I saw something similar on Discovery a while ago. When you put it like that its not a good combination!

Luckily I've never actually seen them. The threats to their safety they clearly perceive say a lot about the crime situation though.
