All-in-one ADSL price here within weeks

I think the jury is still out on this one...

(stares intensely at his monitor contemplating...)

I think its a joke. All it does is relieve Telkom of the burden of support. Yet they still make massive amounts of money from a 2nd line rental.

If all this isn't just more hot air, it means instead of paying my usal 245 i'll pay less? might even upgrade to a 512...

Some questions...

1. If I am with Openweb and they are offering a better price for the access portion, must I cancel my Telkom DSL access and apply with Openweb?
2. What happens if I have Telkom DSL access and WebAfrica as an ISP. Business as usual? Things stay the same? Or does WebAfrica automatically take over the DSL access portion?

Agreed

I would like to see the practical implimentation of this, exactly how it works, cause it looks like it could turn out to be a possible f#ck up!

Same as MartMeister

I am paying Telkom for my ADSL but use WebAfrica
1) Does this apply to new lines only?
2) Would I still pay Hellkom for DSL or WebAfrica
3) This 'All in one' - Does it include the R90 something line rental or is it only DSL and ISP?

My biggest concern is around bandwidth....I have an local account with Openweb and an Int account with Axxess.

Does this now mean I cannot have the 2 accounts and must only go with 1 ISP? I don't like IS's Int link...too unstable...and also don't like SAIX's local account costs

 Confusion is going to reign on this one!!!

This is for self install only, so that means you already need to have a phoneline and thus will pay phoneline rental on top of this wholesale price. A little soon for april fools i agree...

If it doesnt include the line rental then it is not an all inclusive price now is it!
It's a ''kinda-sort-of' all inclusive price, like being half pregnant.

It is a move in the right direction and will make the cost of ADSL look even worse than it does now on paper when compared to say OECD countries.

I do also however fear that the gap between the customer and Telkom will just widen with this and it will be the same old story of pointing fingers to the ISP's when the faults lie with Telkom rendering the customer helpless as such.

nice, my parents had already signed the ink on the 2 year contract but we only have 1 year left, does telkoms adsl price also go down ?

Telkom is trying to shift blame for high pricing and bad service to the ISPs. They have done the same with the bandwidth costs and restriction after the ICASA regs were published. Stating that it is not Telkom capping users, it's the ISPs, it's not Telkom resetting the connections, it's the ISPs, etc. etc.

Now all they do when anyone complain about line rental is say that it's not them, it's the ISPs. The next step is TelkomInternet (the ISP) charges less for line rental to customers than other ISPs are able to. TelkomInternet being cross subsidised by the other benifits of being part of Telkom.

Although I think it is a move in the right direction, it is going to be implemented in the typical "how can we con everyone" way, Telkom is known for. I don't believe for one second that we will benifit from this, in fact we will probably end up paying more for the same crappy line speeds, and cap.

Hopefully we will get some more clarification on this in the next couple of days. All i still hear is "blah...blah....blah......gimme your money!"

The Vat exclusive price for DSL 384 ranges between R 182-67 and R 167-63, depending on the volume of lines. The highest price will apply to ISPs with less than 50 000 lines while the lowest price is for ISPs with more than 400 000 customers.

top price is R208.24 and R191.09 the latter being for having more clients than there are ADSL LINES of various types in SA(maybe) WTF? 2ndly CLoser 4 makes ADSL 384K = R200 incl vat so how the heck is an ISP suppose to compete with this? Remember this is without the isp making a cent yet.

3rdly no mention of what control the ISP will have over the line, such as power to decide what accounts get authenticated on the resold/rebranded line.

I think i'll stick with Telkom just piss them off so that they need to do my support. dang pity my line does not give me issues at all tho :(

For standalone it will workout if client does not have a closer package but will Telkom allow stand alone? Here their Theory of line rental for pots port is put to the test.

Thank you Telkom, 15% decrease on ADSL line charge.
At least something good.
BUT wait a minute... Line charge is a bogus charge...
15% off on screwing us. So They dont steal 100%, only 85% now :D

Is there some "toppie" sitting at the top just wanting to p*ss everyone off all the time. They go from screwing the public with inexplanable nonsense to ALSO screwing the ISPs... There just no end.

ALOT of people will rejoice the day Telkom goes under.
Telkom is indeed without any love.
So Teklom, just stop with the annoying, crap, irritating "CLOSER" advertisements trying to be our friend. WE ARE WAY BEYOND THAT!!!!
('klik' Load shotgun)

This is another brilliant strategy since then the ISP's have to take responsibility for pricing indirectly(Telkom - We don't hard cap/cap local)and will be put to the sword for slow uptake as its just not Telkom reselling the lines or is it ;) Icasa gonna have lots of fun regulating now
