Neotel to trial residential services

first post! woohoo!

anyways nice to see that a product rollout might actually be just round the corner. Kinda surreal.

A pricelist might be an idea... I am sure there is one, or perhaps they told ICASA they will fill it in as they go along

Finally it has begun...

Who's knows abt CDMA2000. How's the quality of this broadband tech compared to ADSL?

From what I know, even at a quarter speed it will take on Telkom's ADSL - other than the 4Meg, which really does not exist as it seems to be something in permanent trail, a way of getting 1Meg customers to hit their cap ASAP

Ahhh!!!!! I Can't Wait!!!! Ahh... the thrill of telling Telkom to stuff it... I wonder how many people Telkom will end up billing for 6 months AFTER they cancel their accounts? :P

I'm not too fussed about speed. Anything over 1Mbps is decent unless we are one day receiving IP TV. CDMA2000 is a type of cellular technology. What's the latency associated with it? How would gaming and delay and jitter sensitive apps like VoIP operate on it. Hope it's good. Otherwise it would be another iBurst/Sentech with poor quality broadband.

This is a good sign though. I bet Telkom should start worrying soon as there definitely will be a mass exodus of consumers to Neotel just for the simple ethics of not being with Telkom.

Sorry Niel

One Small leap for SA Telecoms, One Giant "up yours" to Telkom

I have read the CDMA2000 EV-DO article on wikepedia, i only have one question. I wonder what the latency will be local and international ?

Best news this year!

I'm gonna start preparing an email detailing reasons why people should not get an Internet connection from Telkom and why they should all get the Internet connection from Neotel. You know, the kinda emails that get forwarded around like crazy. The whole of South Africa needs to drop Telkom and go with Neotel as punishment for the sadistic, oppressive, vindictive way Telkom has been treating its consumers for so many years...

Revenge is a dish best served by getting your Internet connection from Neotel. I can't wait!

Finally some action from Neotel! Let's hope their trials are successful and residential offerings are available soon.

@rpm. Don't you get any sleep?

I'm so used to countries where they announce products and services and not just 'trials'. . . why cant anyone these days just get on with it, run trial in the background, then release a product?

Suppose each step forward (eg. getting spectrum) is a major milestone in SA. Everywhere else it's taken for granted, so the only required announcement is the final one ??

Its starting to look like Neotel will deliver. Just hope that the price is right and that they cover my area.

Currently I can only get dail-up at my house, because I'm too far away from the bloody exchange.

Well, until Neotel service my area I'm gonna be on Vodacom's data offering.

The question that a lot of poeple seem to be asking is: What about the latency?

I'm getting a touch worried that there seems to be no answer or reference to what we can expect from the CDMA2000 platform. Well hopefully the trials will give us some answers, and if the latency (especially international) is comparable or even better than ADSL, I will most certainlty give Telscum the boot. It will be a happy day...
