Certain customers are experiencing handset and/or network problems due to their use of old 8K and 16K SIM cards. Examples of problems experienced are:

- Dropped calls
- Network signal fluctuation
- Functionality of the phone e.g. specific menu options not working
- Incompatibility problems with newer cellphone models

Vodacom is running a proactive campaign to encourage customers to replace their SIM cards.

We have identified those customers still using these 8K and 16K SIM cards. We are sending an SMS advising them to visit their nearest Vodacom outlet to do a SIM swap or call 082111 for more information.

How does the SIM card affect the network signal exactly?
And why would this happen only now when the same sims were working before. What has changed?

We have one of the 16k sims in a work phone. Now that you mention it, the call quality hasn't been great for a while now. How long does a sim swap take at an outlet? :)

What would the cost of a such SIM swap be?

How long before a new SIM is active? It is no use doing a SIM swap on a business phone, and then having to battle even a few minutes before it is functional again.

Is it a free exchange?

and is this free? btw, i'm not personally affected.

will we have to register our phones at the same time?

My prepaid sim that doesn't want to make a data connection says 32+ Vodago on it. It is mainly white with some blue. I assume 32+ means 32k?

Probably. There's something else screwy with your prepaid sim, assuming it's the one we're checking out? I know they guys are looking at it.
