iBurst promises speeds of up to 5 Mbps

“An added advantage for the mobile office and international commuters is the fact that broadband users can achieve normal broadband speeds when moving at high speeds in a car or while on a train or bus, making iBurst truly mobile wireless broadband,” iBurst concluded.

HAHAHAHA, we can't even get 1Mb/s when sitting still in an open veld 3 km from a tower

HAHAHA, I barely get an average of 30kbps on the I-Burst system now which says 1Mbps. How are they going to get 5Mbps?

There's been rumours about 2Mbps for a long time as well...

HAHAHAHA, we can't even get 1Mb/s when sitting still in an open veld 3 km from a tower

I have never hit 1MB but regularly clock 900kb/s in Midrand. And that is inside my flat.:D

I get 1Mbit speeds and are further away than 3km from the tower and on torrents I get speeds of 117KB/s

LandyMan is in Centurion, one of the busiest basestations according to iBurst, which is bad...

Luckily they should be (at lease ) getting a few more towers up with R350mil to spend on expansion. :/

Well everyone knew about iBurst being able to achieve higher speeds, so what is the point of this article, more marketing rubbish inbetween saying nothing. We want to know when they plan on doing this.

what crap... all this talk about the 2Mbps speeds what last year June... yet I still see **** all. Now they say 5Mbps... yet another all talk and no action stance they dishing out!

Imagine the poor bloke on his R49p/m package ... 5Mb/s: Now you see it, now you don't. A M$ update will be done before he even realises that his whole cap is about to fly out the, erm, Window :p

I dont trust iBurst. In my area the ppl dont even get 20kb/s when downloading, so iBurst is a big no no for me

This iBurst promise 5mb/s is actually: iBurst SA knows that the technology promises to reach 5mb/s one day but iBurst SA make NO promises about what speed they will be offering.

Better bandwidth - bah

iBurst can stick their 2Mb or even 5Mb up their ass. I'd be happy with 512Kb, reliable reception and low latency. While I'm wishing, honest feedback from their support team would also be nice.

Pure marketing by telling people this, i hope people arent silly enough to belive them!

5 meg line with 40 megs of bandwidth rofl

iburst should not be braodband, most ppl dont even get 20kbs

but maybe at 5meg they will get 70kbs

Imagine the poor bloke on his R49p/m package ... 5Mb/s: Now you see it, now you don't. A M$ update will be done before he even realises that his whole cap is about to fly out the, erm, Window :p

Now that's scary... :D

But will it require that the customers purchase new routers to take advantage of the higher speeds?

iBurst further said that the technology uptake is expanding, with Australia, Canada, the USA, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Tanzania and Vietnam all using or trialing the wireless broadband technology

no no the thing is those countrys dont have stupid caps on there accounts and if they do there are no way near SA caps!

wait wonder what telkom will do?? if iburst have 5mb sure telkoms going to try and rival it

“Current iBurst systems allow connectivity up to 1 Mbit/s for each subscriber, but future firmware upgrade possibilities promise speeds of up to 5 Mbit/s,” iBurst said.

Looks like that it can be a firmware upgrade
