De Lille vs the Web

1. Drives off.
2. Puts mind into gear.

Typical politician trying to gain milage while not understanding the plot. Probably the most telling comment, which no doubt will be echoed by her political enemies is :

“De Lille doesn’t have anything useful to say about the Internet, but the episode has taught us a great deal about the sort of politician she would be in government. Simply put, she would be one those nanny-state busybodies who wants to regulate everything she sees, despite having only the vaguest understanding of what she’s restricting.”

Shame, it must be Hard to be so Thick and Shallow minded

Uhh, the guy's last name is "Grind-rod" and he expects not to be ridiculed. Is it just me who finds it ironic that blog posts were made about him using his "Grind-rod"...

Why stop at Mixit? Make all cellphone users have a cellphone license, make it like a drivers license, only over 18 yrs. Take all the phones and Internet access away from kids and teenagers, lock them up in the back yard with a ball and tell them the stork is bringing a new baby soon.

Ridiculous De Lille.

PS, the guy who started this whole reaction deleted all the stuff on his blog, seems he got some threats from lawyers. Wussy.

Well, what do you suggest he does then? If someone with more power than you (lawyer backed by $$$, or your bloghost) request you to do something, the logical thing to do it to comply. Unless you disagree seriously.

Does De Lille really think if she somehow closed down Mxit it would really stop anything? This just shows a total misunderstanding of the technology, there are MANY other similar services operated from beyond SA's borders where she or any other SA politician has no control. Do they reallly think before Mxit nobody had affairs etc? Come on.

What she is proposing is crazy. But I have to admit I do see where she is coming from though.

Mxit can damage relationships. With text its very easy to get inside someones head. You have time to carefully think about what you are saying and it takes social engineering to another level. The level of connectedness and communication is like never before in todays society.

This can be very dangerous. I for one "met" someone on mxit by mistake when they invited me by mistake ( it was a typo). I was able to get the person to give me every bit of info from who they are, where they work and where they live. It took me a few weeks to get the trust of this girl. All of the info she provided me was correct too. Lucky I am not a freak...

So out of principle, what she is saying does make sense. How ever society has become used to the low level of connectedness we all experienced. Perhaps this new found freedom is an evolution in the way we live much like the motor car. I bet the motor car allowed some to travel to see people they couldnt normally see before, and this probably also damaged many relationships.

Its all about cause and effect though and for Mxit to be blamed is like blaming technology in general for the social problems we have today. Yes technology can enhance the problems but ultimately the cause and root of all of the problems comes from the end users and their conduct..... not the technology.

There is an old saying that goes with computers ... "rubbish in rubbish out"

I kept a copy :D I do hope the De Lille has noticed that the site was dealt with, without the need for government regulation.

The fact that blog is taken means one of two things...

1. It is all true.

2. Its all lies and this guy has just done a brilliant "mind f#ck", by taking it down and saying what he has now said, it sheepishly makes it all look true even in the eyes of some off those who thought it was rubbish.

Either way the damage is done, and most people will always give a skew look at those people. This just goes to show how a simple little wordpress blog that even looked crap, can generate a ton of attention.

Thats the power of the Web :D

I kept a copy :D

Will they try to "regulate" your copy? :D

Hmmm... gotta see what happens... I think a lot of people made copies, and these copies will still be circulating a few months from now on... :D

But the damage is done. What's said cannot be undone.
