Where does South Africa really stand regarding broadband prices?

Morroco?

20mb/sec
uncapped...

I hate you, South Africa. I hate you so much.

Yeah very nice article.

I don't think it'll win the Telkom journalist of the year award tough. ;)

Moneyweb has the award firmly on their sights...

Excellent article! We really do suck! Now why can't an article like that make it to the front page of the newspapers

I just got capped LOCALLY by ISDSL :( Freaking local cap. blah

Very interesting article, quite impressive how low mobile costs are compared to the rest of the world considering the high Telkom charges they pay.

This article is much better a puts a better perspective on the broadband saga than that other article "that shall not be named" that puts us in the top 10 in africa who pay the least for DSL services...LOL!

Excellent article and putting things in perspective. And pointing out that with fixed-line ADSL South Africa is lagging way, way behind to what is available.

So technically they are in Africa but the reap the benefits of European broadband. Now is that really a good comparison?

As a comparison in Australia, I am paying A$50/month (R 290/month) for a 1.5mbps line and a 20gb download limit.

I signed up for a 6 month contract and about a week later they released an 8 mbps offering for the same price.

ADSL2 is currently being rolled out in major cities offering up to 24 mbps ranging from A$30/month (R 174) for 600 mb download through to A$130/month (R 754) for 100 gb download.

My brother in law just came back from living in Korea for 12 months. His standard speed was 100mbps but he could have increased this to 200mbps if he wanted to.

Looks like we're both way behind.

Not to stomp on anyones toes, not even the article's writer but did he/she price non shaped accounts or shaped ones ?

Where else in the world does one find shaped ADSL accounts?

If the rest of the world uses Unshaped ADSL accounts, then Unshaped is the yardstick against which Telkodemonopolies' weeny ADSL gets measured.
