Telkom to reduce price of Closer ADSL packages

Good news for me --> Was trying to work out what the logistics would be if I was to switch to closer plan 3 instead of 4. Now I can maintain status quo

Reduce it another 80% and I might even think about using your products again Telkom

Thanks for finding this out, RPM. The reduction means there are still good enough reasons to stay on these bundles. Figuring Closer 3 at R300, it makes 384k access R129pm, and upto 4Mb/s access R351pm.

I wonder what changes there will be to the doCloser packages. Probably similar.

thank mate.. Was wondering what was happening with my plan 5.. Not a huge saving but its better than nuthing eh?

Good to hear. I am running a business from home and am on closer 4. My phone bill is about 2/3 of what it used to be and will now come down even further. It would be good to get all new prices in one go, it would save a lot of aggravation. It can't be that difficult to do that.

Good stuff. On our Closer 4 thats an extra gig of international shaped data on WebAfrica prepaid.. or 3 gigs of local for lots of Xbox Live gaming (now I just have to get that routing working :p )

True. Give us some time, and I'm sure we'll figure a way to blame Telkom for that too. :)

I've done it:

I heard Telkom are blocking the laying of a pipeline, which should run from the Middle East down to South Africa, along the East African coast; apparently there is no profit in it for them so they choose to block its construction rather than allow others to make something of it. They have been showing interest in Sasol, another former state run business where apparently IIRC Ruben September’s son works as the head janitor. They are however trying to figure out a way to charge you for entering a fuel station (a double charge model because you’re using the same road for entry and exit), and an installation charge for inserting the fuel nossel into your car. Apparently LRP fuel users will be charged extra as they are considered high end fuel users travelling at unnecessarily high speed, (the high speed is calculated on Telkom’s assumption model, it involves “nose picking” a highly technologically advanced piece of software ordered by them from Enron for which they later did not pay for, another story altogether…)
All this has led to Sasol (with newly found dollar signs in their eyes) keeping their prices high, in collusion with the multinational motor vehicle/broadband providers like Tata/Neotel. This is with the hope that Sasol under its new parent company Telkom, can sign a deal whereby they can have exclusive rights to supply fuel to all Tata users as much as Telkom will supply bandwidth to all Neotel users; thereby creating the most complex monopoly known to mankind!

And that, in a nutshell, is why we pay so much for fuel!

Analogue line rental prices will however increase from R 99-92 to R 111.90, which means that there will be an effective saving of around 15% on the combined ADSL Access and Line Rental charges.

6 of one=half a dozen of the other

By the time broadband prices come down to acceptable levels, the analogue line rental will be as high as a junkie on tik:D How's that for balancing the books with Chinese mathematics. You gotta hand it to Telkom, Sars has got nothing on them. They give with the one hand and steal with the other. Will adsl run on a waya waya line? Apparently it is R120 pa for access and then you have to buy prepaid airtime to make calls. Would you be able to run DSL on such a line??????

I thought that the do packages is a all-in-one bundle where the line rental is included... I can't help feel that there is absolutely no competition... iburst = 10% vodacom = 50% telkom... so in essence iburst = vodacom = telkom
:(

they give you 40 off and charge you 20 more somewhere else!

Has anyone else noticed how if u compare the current 'savings' of Closer and DoBroadband to what they will be after 1 August, that the 'savings' will be slightly less after 1 August...

They get u hooked[1] on a product then hike the price and profit margin up just a tad so that most people won't even notice or complain...

[1] vintage Telkom and greedy corporate behaviour...
