Who is my credit bureax? I thought there were many. Anyone know how easy/possible this is to do and who to contact? I would love to know if my credit record is clean as it should be (and I don't trust these guys).

As per your finance24 link:
Where to check

Consumers wanting to check their credit profiles have a number of options. They can go to TransUnion ITC, which offers people one free credit report annually.

i recently had to have my record checked when i was applying for a new place to rent, and i moved into my new place on saturday, so i guess i'm clean.

/me hopes...

It might be clean cause who ever opened an account in your name last month hasn't killed the credit limit yet :P

There are 2 places to get it... www.mycredit.co.za i.e. Transunion and then www.experian.co.za Transunion will let you do it all online, provided your id, address and all that match up, which is also nice in that each year you can do it yourself. Experian you will have to phone and fax and all sorts of crud and is generally a pain in the arse imo having to do all that ( I am not saying they are crap, just for me phoning and faxing and all that is a pain).

As part of the new credit act you are entitled to 1 free report annually in the month of your birth. I am not 100% sure on if you can still get it free if you missed it, e.g those who want it now and are born Jan - May, although you should be able to.

Last year I got mine from Experian, but paid twenty bucks for it, this year I got it free from Transunion. I must admit though I perfer the one from experian even if it is more of a hassle (and there website seems to be down now) as it gave me a credit score, where as the Transunion one only showed my profile and payment record etc.

Unless you have been the victim of identity theft as Carte Blanche once showed!

I have just gone to take a look at the "Free Personal Credit Report" online page ( page 1 ). BEWARE of this:

We will not use your information to send unsolicited email. We may use your information to update certain aspects of your Credit Report to facilitate the credit granting process.

You are then asked for home, work, fax and cell numbers as compulsory fields plus your email address.

Understand that these will be used to update your records so that ANY subscriber to their credit service ( which would include the banks, major retailers, and all and sundry ) can now update THEIR records and contact you telephonically or by SMS. I also STRONGLY suspect that the big telesales number-mongers ( like ETL ) update their data via the bureaux.

BE CAREFUL GIVING ALL THIS OUT!!!!!

Yeh, but there's that new thing about sales people not being allowed to contact you without permission.

BTW. I didn't read it and filled in the damn forms...got to the end and got an ASP.NET error page :-(

I don't know how development companies can deploy applications without thoroughly testing them.

At the moment, only if granting credit. There is plenty to sell you that does not fall into that category. You have been warned.

The warning was too late!!!!!!!!

B.T.W.:
According to section 45 of the ECT Act, anyone who sends unsolicited commercial communications to consumers must provide the consumer with the option to cancel his/her subscription to the mailing list. The sender must also disclose the source from which they obtained the consumer's personal information if requested by the consumer.

I'm having fun with the part in red at the moment...

The last local spammer I fought informed me that my mail address was "in the public domain". Bastards!

Yeh... someone did that to me once... I happened to know someone who worked for his company, and she gave me his residential address, I rocked up there asking for the exact details he denied me of earlier, needless to say, after cr*pping himself, I had what I needed the next morning in my mailbox. :p

I told him his residential address was also public domain.

I have a credit request from "BLUE LIGHT MONITO" any one know what this is? Odd how I have not applied for anything and this was made earlier in the year.
