So its got this RJ11 port, and from what I gather one can connect the telephone of some kind to it and somehow phone with it.

Anyone got more details? Can one connect a normal phone handset?

I think you can plug in a normal analog telephone into it and dial via airtime on the sim. Not sure if it can work via VIOP/SIP connection, maybe @sajunky can confirm.

That would be so cool... I wonder if it can ring too? I think I will have to dig out my analogue phone...

Oh yes, there was a Telkom pamphlet in the box, that goes on about Telkoms InTouch/BizTlak VoIP Lite/ VoIP 5 service but I have no idea what that all about.

Confirmed, using the same analog phone. It looks like technologically step back, but I stay in a factory building under corrugated roof and have to walk outside to receive calls, as connection is poor. Rooter has stronger antenna, sits next to window and connection is very stable.

In default configuration you can dial from analog phone using your cellular airtime. Router is using CSFB, so Internet connection is not interrupted during a call. Telkom Unlimited users might not be able using cellular calls if SIM is not enabled for CS services or access to 3G/2G towers is restricted, I don't know. The same apply to any user who forced LTE-only connection on the router.

Now word about VoIP. Once VoIP server is configured, there is an option for dialing. Default is still CS-only, which means the option has to be changed for dialing over VoIP. Router can use G729 codec, for those interested.

Warnings:
1. There are reports that VoIP do not work when router is configured for WAN access via Ethernet port.
2. Every time you change server settings, dialup option reverts to CS, so you must remember to verify all settings.

I use a standard cordless telephone that I got from game. Works if you plug it directly into the Telkom land line too so you DO NOT NEED a VOIP phone if you want to use it.

CS Only --> This makes calls from the simcard. Won't work when forced to 4G only. Uses simcard airtime
CS Primary--> Will try and make a call using simcard first then Voip if there is a Voip account setup
SIP Primary--> Will try to use Voip First then switch to use the simcard if the Voip fails for whatever reason.
SIP Only--> Will only use Voip SIP account to make calls.

Screenshot of my settings and phone used. Nexus Voip ftw as I joined and got 2 voip numbers free. They now charge a monthly fee. If you want it 100% free the Mweb Talk is your answer. If you want to port your Telkom land line number the Switch Telecom is decent I believe and they do porting not too sure.

Thanks cavedog

Np ;) It is pretty cool actually I'm making most of my calls on it. Got a 031 and 087 number and people calling them gets charged normal rates no special rates so they won't complain phoning you.

Just a note to other people too. Obviously the Telkom free lanline calls won't work to VOIP numbers even if they are 031,021,011 or whatever extension as the number is registered to a VOIP providers so just make sure to mention it to friends and famaliy if you do get a VOIP line setup.

Thanks CD
Mweb all setup on my side, screens were helpful

Cool no problem. Mweb does not have the best of rates but pretty decent for a free did number and works ell with the LTE so the LTE capped or uncapped is a complete solution for voice and data :)

Tested with analogue phone connected with SIP account on router via our VoIP provider and works perfectly to all numbers, all networks etc..

Hey guys. If you have a LTE setup greydot mobile with sip option is for you.

Setting up the sip portion of it means you make VOIP calls for just R0.29 per minute to local cellphone numbers and R0.18 per minute to landlines.

You don't get better than that and you can send faxes from the web portal by email or uploading your document and send sms too....

They also spoof your mobile or landline number to show calls as if you were actually calling from your cellphone or landline.

Yeah pretty awesome. I set it up in my B315 router with Telkom LTE now and it works pretty well.

If you want to try it out. They give you R3 free to test the service. Allows for call back service too if you out and about and need to make calls. Thos calls are charged @ R0.59 per minute.

Get a "freeme" bundle .
International would be a prize.

Did you get special rates? :)

GreyDot Mobile calls to:
Vodacom, MTN, Telkom fixed line: 29c
Cell C, Telkom Mobile: 37c
Neotel: 34c

The real setback is per minnute billing. Not committed yet.
What is SIP server settings and list of codecs?
