Is Neotel scared of Telkom?

As was predicted on these forums it is coming out now...Neotel will not be the solution to our broadband / communication cost problems...everybody is in it to make a buck otherwise it will be charity and not business. Don't place to much hope on the SNO soon.
 
I've lost hope in them a while back already.

They either delay, talk about future products or don't say anything at all and keep everyone in the dark.

Good luck Neotel....I've changed my mind and don't think I'll be needing your services whenever they eventually do materialize. If you don't have the gonads to take on Telkom why should I have the gonads to support your business with my money. :(
 
Trying to evade the obvious need to compete with Telkom in the fixed line arena may serve to create mistrust among consumers and damage the reputation of a company which has consumer support merely by virtue of its promise to break the incumbent’s long standing monopoly.

This statement carries the most value, it may be the undoing of our beloved SNO. And everyone knows I'm holding thumbs for NeoTel, but the masses are impatient - honestly so am I. But I don't know what to make of things anymore. As for government and Infraco - they're just wanting to line their pockets - I'm not giving in to their statement - I'm of the belief that NeoTel in terms of management and business model (though we hear very little of this business mode, i.e. pricing) has the capacity to take on Telscum.

As for its own backbone - Neotel shareholders and investors have the cash to flog at it, but its also causing delays. And then what still of LLU? I hope that NeoTel is not sitting around waiting for that to happen. Then there's SEACOM and 2009 - So many angles, so little will power to keep me all pepped up nowadays.
 
I at times have hopes the Neotel will pull through, but those times are becoming rarer and rarer nowadays. They are just as bad as Telscum, all talk and no action.
 
So sad to read the comments above, cause I feel just like that and I'm sure there are plenty more.

South Africa is already hopelessly lagging behind the rest of the world. And as it looks, it's gonna take years and many more years to get anywhere. I somehow feel that we're gonna become the laughing stock of the world come 2010. Not because we lacked public transport or had crime to deal with, but because there will be the equivalent of those 40-gig fibre lines from each stadium connecting to a 56K modem while an international press corps of thousands and thousands trying to make their deadlines.

Pshaw, then again! I'm also German so I can comfortably deny ever having been affiliated with this country. :|

Neotel to join the SA Broadband Oligopoly/Cartel

This is Telkom pretty much admitting that it can and will not reduce its prices until it has reason to. I doubt Neotel will bring a drastic change to Broadband prices, we'll most likely see a R50-R100 deduction on prices accross the board, but nothing lifechanging.

We're still a long way away from a fast, unshaped and uncapped broadband connection that costs less than R1000...
 
And to think the stupid gov gave them a guarantee for a few yrs before a tno comes.. whats ivy's defence this time round?
 
That stupid giant Telkom billboard is still sitting outside the Neotel offices and they've done nothing about it.

Reminds me of the scrawny kid who sits and takes it while the big bully kicks sand in his face.

I'm willing to bet that 2010 will be a broadband success. Simply cause Telscum will take all our bandwidth away and dedicate it to the World Cup. We will all be back to our own 56k modems for about 3 months over that time.
 
Vodacom / MTN ring a bell?

This is what I have anticipated since that press release a whilst back where they stated that they won't be competeing on price.

Woopee Fing Doo they are going to bring us some new products....

So now we will be ripped in a new way, as appose to an old way. NeoTel you have now definatley lost me as a potential client. Even with Telkom being as terrible as they are, I will not move if I can't get a better service, for cheaper. We are being over charged, of that there is sufficient proof, and if NeoTel will carry on that tradition, then why should I support them?

I think NeoTel is about to find out where they can put there "new" products...
 
Why this Expection of ONE company to take on Telkom

The mess that is Government Policy/Actions needs to be sorted out

Secondly, Neotel should be just one of many Telecoms Providers to choose from.

For me, the ace up their sleeve is the management reputation and Indian telecoms model that they cna/should/will bring as part of VSNL.

In other words, IF THEY DO AS VSNL have done in India, then we should be positive.

What is MTN, Vodacoms and the other services providers heritage and track record. being part of the blinkered and telkom influenced mindset.

I think Neotel will be a breath of fresh air, but they may have to fart a few times first, before they get going
 
Once Neotel has access to cheap international bandwidth they will pass it on to us.

In the meantime, I think they should provide innovative products that make as much use of local as possible.


▫ Maybe create data centers that host videos/movies/games.

▫ Make themselves the definitive choice for gamers by providing good latency.

▫ Free local calls (there's no money in voice for Neotel, is there?)

▫ NGN access technologies.

▫ And businesses need affordable super-fast connections between their offices.

We all thought this would be the case and now it looks like its true. Were going to be screwed again - looks like the only way to cheap broadband is to emigrate!
 
nothing will ever change in this country thats for sure

neotel just suck ass now in my books and i hope they fail badly in all their attempts to not rival telkom in anything

My hope is still that Telkom will realise that the best way to make even more money than they do now is to drop prices and massively increase volumes. Then I get cheap what I want, company makes more money, product available to lower earners. We all win.
