since it seems one can't get a decent answer...

here is what they shape so far
  • p2p
  • torrent
  • and application based on the above technologies

also to the list it seems at certain hours
  • newsgroups
  • ftp
  • video streaming
  • rapidshare
  • DC++
  • mIRC dcc

http always at full speeds regardless of day or time.

a clear definition of business hours would a start though with a proper layout of when, what and how much from IS.

8am to 6pm ? weekdays

then here is also the limit at will that kicks some times during the evenings or weekends.

...wonder where that IS's representative has gone to that was here a while ago.

do one sell cars that at random intervals halve the drivers speed ?

Slightly OT, but: Would it theoretically be illegal / against AUPs to bypass shaping?

well some binaries newsgroups offer packet encryption to avoid detection and shaping for around R30 more.

...what is annoying is when you have a legit downloader / updater which is p2p or torrent based and then have to sit with this crap

I've been having serious problems with giganews as of late, when exactly are the newsgroups being shaped?

giganews: around 6pm-ish it sometimes magically goes to 30KBps... might have been line or route though.

...anyways list updated

30KBps? I was hoping for something more like 400kb/s, what speeds do you get when it doesn't go down the gutter?

OK... The basics

Everything get shaped on IS almost all the time (except local downloads via news server/ftp etc.) I rearly get my 440 KBps on IS at night (after 5 pm) but can bearly download at 40 KBps during the day. There is my results...

*sigh* is it only me or is Local and especially International DOG slow tonight. I have nothing downloading and web sites are timing out, i have to constantly refresh to get things to load!.... GRRRRRRR

Anyone else experiencing frikken slow IS int? getting continuous timeouts!! Dial up is faster!!

We have IS Business Uncapped ADSL at the office.
And it is not very impressive - Our Managed Service Provider, was telling me in a meeting the other day, they they pretty much proved that Telkom has implemented another level of contention at the DSLAM's themselves, where they will plug a competing ISP's Business customers onto bandwidth starved Node / Card.

He had 2 Bus ADSL lines coming from the same exchange 1 SAIX and the other IS, he claims the IS line was useless, so swapped routers, and what do you know SAIX was p0mped... straight away.

Both lines "checked out fine"
