iBurst to give away free data

Marketing, you gotta love it, we'll give free megabytes, but only in about 2 months time, what a ploy! :p
 
Solution for iBurst to stop losing their clients :

1. Overhaul the accounts department, and I mean it.
2. Bring your prices down.
3. Stop throttling the services the customer's paying for.

At face value it does appear to be an innocent promotion to get iBurst subscribers to upgrade to the latest dashboard version, although appearances can be deceiving.

Also reading the Ts&Cs for this promotion, the free 500MB only applies for >=5 USB attached modem dashboard driven logins during October 2007, so no more free 500MB data after November 2007 unless unused data from the 500MB is carried over to December.

Add Mac and Vista to the list of OSes that iBurst's new dashboard does not support.

Maybe WINE that dashboard in Linux, but be sure to only use the USB cable otherwise you would be violating the Ts&Cs to qualify for the free 500MB...:rolleyes:

So presumably the Dashboard application is communicating with the iBurst Network in order to inform iBurst that the user has connected via the USB Dashboard. What else is communicated? How much bandwidth is used communicating?
 
Data consumed by the running of the Dashboard:
  • Running of the dashboard while connected – 7KB per hour
  • Calling of the Dashboard to see whether any push messages have been loaded – 200bytes per hour
  • Push messages received by the Dashboard – max 250bytes per message per hour
  • File updates – roughly 20KB-50KB per month
Taking all of the above into consideration, an average Subscriber remaining connected via the Dashboard 24/7 (i.e. never disconnecting) will use roughly 6MB monthly

No because otherwise it wouldn't work.

That's always how the dashboard has worked, crappy software is the problem here :p

Thanks, interesting stats. They all seem fine except for 7KB per hour just running it... why exactly once everything else is counted seperately? Oh well, I won't be running it anyway, even bothering to log in 5 times is too much hassle for 500mb.

"The Dashboard is meant for use by the subscriber, iBurst may from time to time use the Dashboard to collect data with respect to the Subscriber’s upload and download speeds."

The claim is therefore currently unsubstantiated and in breach of Clause 4.1 of Section II of the Code. In addition, the claim contravenes Clause 4.5 of Section II of the Code.

withdraw the claim in its current format;
the process to withdraw the claim must be actioned with immediate effect on receipt of the ruling;
the withdrawal of the claim must be completed within the deadlines stipulated by Clause 15.3 of the Procedural Guide; and

I've tried MS Office on WINE in Feisty with little success:( I'll wait for Gutsy to give it a shot again:D
 
saule - the problem there would be with wine and not which OS you use
