Wanted: Eyeballs for new stations

W3lcom3 T0 th3 Suckzor!!
LOLOLOL! TELKOM T.V!

“If any of the services fail it will have a detrimental effect on consumers who have bought the satellite dish and set top boxes to receive that service and it could very likely result in a loss of consumer confidence in the new pay-TV operators,” says Keene-Young.

Implying that you'll need a different satellite dish for each service? Surely not... I guess it's just badly worded.

On Digital Media’s biggest selling point is that the consumer only pays for the channels they want.

Yay! As long as they have decent channels, and at a decent price per channel... and cheap decoders, because there's no point if your decoder costs as much as a year's subscription.

Here is how it will play out.

  • Multichoice will get its ass handed to it by Telkom Media purely based on ENJOYMENT value as the tech Telkom is planning to use outshines anything MultiChoice has revealed.
  • E-TV will play in a sandbox all its own as will Walk on Water who will not have much content, but will be cheaper than the rest.
  • The 5th company is out looking for trouble and should end up being sold to the highest bidder.

well if they offer the channels i want 2 watch, i will sign up. plus it will prob b cheaper then DSTV.

As long as I have a choice, Telkom Media will 'not' be the one I choose.

I'm sure Multichoice will not be resting on their laurels. They know that they will have to up the ante. But if their HD offering is going to cost more than their current price, then you just might be right. ;)

Or, they will eventually get government to revoke all other licenses, including DSTV, and become a monopoly. They will then increase prices by 1000% and only offer old re-runs of Dallas... :D

Sci-fi channel! DSTV dropped it and I would definitely watch it!

"On Digital Media’s biggest selling point is that the consumer only pays for the channels they want." The more operators that offer this the better. Then I can pick and choose from each operators bouquet - give everyone a piece of the pie!

I don't know if you can associate Telkom Media with Telkom - they are not the same company and are governed by different laws and departments! Its akin to associating Xbox with Windows - both m$ but definitely in different arenas!

isn't saix and Telkom two different companies :p point being Telkom's powerhouse is that they cross subsidise heavily and with the media station going over adsl u can no doubt guess it will be covered by parent company

All well and good but when are they going to start broadcasting? Why does everything in this country take so flippin long to start. They have their licenses so it should be a matter of days before we can start subscibing. I fear though that it will be months or years even.

Well why won't DSTV & Telkom Media collude?

But if not, and ODM makes available own bundle selection, and if options are popular, then others will follow.

hell yes but they do it out of free will....

I'm willing to give any opposition to Mnet a shot.
