Are we heading for a glut in sub-marine cable capacity?

Give them more speed and the same cap is a BAD Idea!
700Kbs but a 3Gb cap :(
 
At this moment in time, we're heading for NO extra cables. Until the DoC gets rid of Ivy and the DG, we are gonna get zippo bandwidth relief. I knew that seacom, eassy and the rest were all pipedreams... I was wondering how and when the DoC would disable them!
 
It's not Telkom that is entirely to blame anymore! They're just a profit driven behemoth acting in a legislative environment to maximum effect that has been created by government.

Nobody else but government is to blame for the mess we have in South Africa.

Get over blaming Telkom! They're the symptom, not the disease!

It's the incompetency of the DoC and Mbeki that has thus far created this staggering pile of steaming turd, we call South African connectivity!

We can't change Telkom. That's been proven over and over again. But we can change government! Afterall, this is a democracy, right. Right?

Well, then we need to slam government on that! It doesn't matter anymore why or what it's about. The fact of the matter is, they're screwing it all up.

I bet you if we had hundreds if not thousands of people in Cape Town march on parliament protesting this, with enough media coverage in turn that nobody could blot out the cacaphony and the discontent.

So far the only people who are moaning are from the media. This site included. It's only media moaning.

And we know how government sees media. They practically ignore it.

But take a good old fashioned march on parliament and you just see how quickly ears will perk up.

Or better yet, imagine IT workers striking for a day.

The point is, we can't go on like this anymore. We've been bitching and moaning 4 years now on this site, and it's done practically nothing to official policy.

It has however educated many of us to the real issues at hand. That needs to become our weapon. It's all we've got.

Seriously. This is what the TAG and other groupings need to be doing. It's obvious government isn't listening anymore and that they are not reasonable enough to pursue what many of us see as the only proper course of action: less government intervention and more market driven competition.

And God damnit - I'm too pissed off with such incompetency to continue writing angrily in forums about this any further! We need to organise. I screw you not! We need to spend one day marching onto parliament screaming our lungs out.

After that at least I could come back here post some more and not be nearly as angry anymore. :)
 
What have you been smoking when you think govt listens to marchers? Dont you know they arrest marchers, coz they said they will march in the street, but someone stepped onto the sidewalk. Or that the march would start at 9:30 but still has not started at 9:31. The only time Thabo hears about things happening in SA is either when he reads about them in the UK papers, or when the its an agenda item on the ANC NEC lists. he he he

Man, while reading your sig the irony is so palpable.

Yeah, I'm probably wishing too much that people here would go beyond sitting at their computers and flaming threads on MyADSL. But I still maintain, short of protest actions, squat will happen and we will go down the road of complete and utter oblivion with regards to connectivity as current news would seem to indicate.
