ADSL ISPs suffer at hands of Telkom

That happened to me - I applied for the all-in-one from WebAfrica, and was told that my exchange wasn't ADSL enabled. I then applied via Telkom, and all went smoothly...

My parents have just applied for the Cybersmart all-in-one package, so I only hope it goes more smoothly for them.

Telkom unethical and criminal behaviour

It is clear that there is ample reason for embarking on a class action
against Telkom. Not only are they gouging the people of South Africa,
they are a positive impediment to the pursuit of freedoms like choice
of work and means of work, if you are in a field that relies on modern
technology.

Sue 'em and let them pay back the millions they stole from us over the
last decade, WITH INTEREST AT PRIME RATE! Hahhaa! Scumbags! Die!

Sigh* The S.A Government will bail out telkom once again... the only way it is EVER going to come right...

1. Kill Ivy.
2. Remove ICASA.
3. Remove State Ownership in EVERYTHING.
4. Make Telkoms a open market.
5. Sit back and watch as some of the best prices/offers come our way as melkhom is not there to hold us/them back!
:)

Customers, who are unaware of how the system works, often blame their ISPs for the poor service delivery, which means that the ISP not only loses business but also has to repair the damage to their brand.

Somehow, "I told you so" just doesn't seem very satisfying. "Die Telkom, DIE!!" seems better...

Hopefully Neotel will save us. Haven't heard any news from them in a long time. RPM, time for an update?

The 2 company telecom system is a bluff. It WILL NOT WORK!

The market needs to be opened up to 3 or more entrants. 2 is a number to bluff us with. We are screwed for at least another decade. Possibly two.

Telkom obviously went into providing reselling ADSL without developing adequate administration systems. Which is not unusual nor surprising; and not just for Telkom.

I'm not impressed with this complaint. ISPs reselling ADSL bandwidth make about 20% for very little effort once the sale is made.

That's exactly how I feel when phoning them regarding an ADSl fault and they pass it off to Telkom. Whether it is Telkom or not, it's the helplessness of the situation.

They can do some of the work here to smooth out the system for the easy profit they'll make later on once everything runs smoothly.

It was to be excpected, never forget who we are dealing with here.

yup, no surprise there.Telkom is after all government protected so nothing will happen to them soon...

Telkom sucks big time. Look in the UK you pay 30 pounds, for a 20mb line and its uncapped. Not 2000kb but 20000kb, like SA they say get the new 4mb line, but you are running at 400kb. mmm sure buddy

Come on telkom. Not everbody in South Africa is stupid, like some of your board members!!!

I'm too lazy to go off in search of all our collective posts when this service was announced, but I vaguely recall that many of us predicted that Telkodemonopolies would toy with ADSL ISPs, I also vaguely recall having said something about ADSL ISPs being blinded by $$$ signs and that it would come back to bite them...

And these are people who have probably been dealing with Telkom for a long time. It amazes me that the ISPs have not formed together to take on Telkom from a legal viewpoint for anti-competitive practices.
