Pay-television entrants want Icasa to grant them 20-year licences

Most likely a ploy to have bargaining point for sale of the company, rather than operating it ...

Poor telscum media. They have not even started yet and now they complain that they want an extended period to a$$rape their clients.
20 years is a long time for them to have a 100% secure place to abuse their power.
Also, if they have a 20 year license does that mean that only 20 years from now more licenses will be issued or can icasa hand out more licenses in the next couple of years?

Monopolistic environment is a KEY word MR. Matthyser, in such environments there is no need for INNOVATION, GO GET DAMN CUSTOMERS attitude or COMPETITIVE pricing model.
IMHO the license process should be abolished and open up competitive markets to capture the profits by above mention strategies, ICASA should only administer adherence to OPEN environment friendly standards.

So the companies that got 'licenses' don't actually have licenses yet then? Or if they do they don't know what they actually bid for? Duh.
Surely the term of the license was set up front?
Here we go... Term of license now being challenged, will get changed, legal challenge by failed bidders, whole process tied up in courts for three years, then re-license process by ICASA, target for completion 2011.
Don't encourage them, stay away from the telly. Read a book, practise making babies, go for a walk...

A 20 year license won't guarantee success. I think those pay-tv operators that don't have a sound business plan will fold within the first 5-8 years. If this happen, their licenses should be made available to any other company with the balls to compete.
Licenses should be reviewed, just to make sure that the operators are actually competing with each other, and not doing what our cellphone companies are doing.

I find it absolutely bloody amasing that Telkom are saying that they should get at least a 20 year license, yet the refuse to unbuddle the local loop or give anything back to the customer.
