State nod may help MTN woo Telkom

I must say I'm getting tired of people not calling the guavamint out on this whole price thing.

The article mentions guavamints requests for prices to drop, but also mentions they have a controlling stake in Telkom. Have to wonder how having a controlling stake in company means you can't dictate what it does.
 
MTN or Telkom, mmmm....

There has been no attempt from MTN to lower Cellular cost in South Africa...
I doubt that they will lower cost in the fixed market, they will simply ride the profit wave like they always have...
It might mean better customer service from Ex Telkom, but its not like they going to fire all the current telkom fixed line dead wood employees to offer better service...
Also, one company owning cellular and fixed line assest all of a sudden..I think they are in a better position than Vodacom which is still lying lines of their own.
Whether things will improve due to this we will have to see...
 
MTN charges

Hi,

Another off the topic discussion:
Did anyone receive a bill that has charges for services that were not used by you?
I received charges for services I did not even subscribed to... and this from MTN and still in the process of trying to recover these charges... :(
Why is the customer support lines supplied by some telco and cell companies not toll free? (It's like they are making extra money out of there own mistakes)
Why do we pay for detailed billing if we do not even have the proper facilities avialable to question these charges?
Is there another channel available to the oridianry man out there that can be used to address these discrepancies?
One suggestion I have for the regulatory body is to disallow the enforcement of debit orders to pay for contracted cellphones, so that the user can have the abillity to question the authenticity of the billing
and with hold payment until corrected.
 
The sooner TELKOM is sold off the better.

Only then will there be any meaningful change that does not amount to government LIES and lip service!

When TELKOM is sold, the high level comrades will have their paycheck, till then though, the government will continue to protect TELKOM's value so as to maximise their profit until a sale agreement is reached.

TELKOM has to be the biggest injustice to the people of this country since apartheid.
 
So... call it what you like, but it looks to me that
MTN is the next Telkom...
or Telkom in MTN clothing.

What about the 50% stake in VC? Who owns that now?
 
Sure, good point...
Telkom and everything they stand for is not dead because their assets are under new ownership...
And we have heard interesting stories about the Gvt's interest in MTN lately.
