PC World - fastest Vista laptop of the year . . .

I just got the moer in with Vista, so I've put kubuntu on my laptop. It is amazing what a difference that has made :)

How can a mac be faster with Vista is exaclty the same components with up to date drivers being used? Inquiring minds want to know...

In that case how can any pc be faster than another?
 
If the exact same hardware is used with the same software, the only variations that would be caused due to slight variations in the electrical currents from the main clockspeed.

There's more to it than that. Different manufacturers make different quality components, even if their specs are the same. Just read the performance reviews on motherboards based on chipset XYZ. If the manufacturer doesn't do a great job of implementing the chipset, it won't perform as well.

Case in point: I had two TNT2 cards way back when - same revision of the chipset, same amount of video memory. One was an 'OEM' brand that struggled with Quake3, the other was a Gainward card (PCI even!) that ran circles around most Geforce2 MX card of the time.
