Nando’s vs MTN

I'm getting a bit tired of Nandos always deliberately getting itself into 'trouble' with its ads in order to get lots of extra free publicity and get people talking about them - it was funny the first few times but now it's getting tired --- Nandos, your service sucks tragically and your food has become mediocre and overpriced, please focus on these issues rather and maybe I'll actually consider ever buying your food again.

As Nando's ripped off one of MTN's adverts, MTN probably thinks that they can do that too, by copying Cell C's disgusting "shouting" advert.
One would think that Corporates would have some sense of what is funny and just plain revolting, in terms of advert content as well as dual standards. It doesn't seem so.
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Maybe MTN's glass walls are too dirty to see outside.

The shouting advert is actually stolen from the BUD commercials "WAZZZZZZZUP" in the states.

It is simply uncivilised. It doesn't surprise me that it comes from the states and that local companies just ape it. It fits right in with bad service, deceptive offers, obscene profits and remunerations of top managers.

Asa

This "case" is going to be an interesting one to watch. Quite brave of Nando's to "challenge" MTN. Brave could easily be replaced with: "stupid" or "cheap"

However? will the "Yello Hummer" be bad for MTN? or is Nando's just riding on someone elses wave?

They're two entirely different industries, jack. I don't see the issue, even if they were the same, it's competition.

LOL :D.

It appears as if MTN has no sense of humour, IMO MTN is actually getting free advertising from Nandos' Yello Hummer campaign - especially since MTN does not sell fast food, and Nandos does not do cellular communications.

hehehe! Go Nando's. Luv their ads. MT bloody N should buy a sense of hummer with their R433 m. Now thats an obscene amount they take from their subscribers!

Why is this even in the news?? Just because it is MTN involved? These things happen all the time...

Nando's made a name for themselves using this type of marketing strategy...is it wrong? I believe so, but business wise they create a hype and it's just enough to cause a stir...look, we all are talking about Nando's in a major SA forum!!!

[Side Note] Although Mr. Branson didn't publicly name names, he just about shot down every cell-phone operator, also a bit of a grey area.

So as I see it, Nando's must do anything to keep business alive and generate hype...MTN must lighten up, everyone knows they don't compete for the same customer pool...or when did MTN start basting chickens??

Yes... but you don't really get cheap takeaways anymore... Nando's price is on par with Steers? Only thing I know cheaper is KFC (Slightly), and MacDonalds (which is vile).

Coke, chips, and burger at Steers is R40-R45.

Yes it's ridiculously expensive, but look at the bright side, eating less Fast Food per week :)

MTN need a sense of humour. Their Yello' Summer campaign is rubbish anyway...they should be grateful to Nandos for making people pay attention to it.

Why couldnt they rip off the dumbass meerkat;(
