k, so I finally bought me my HP 530 1,66 Core Duo laptop. Very pleased with it :) It took a while for me to install XP pro as it was shipped with Vista, but I finally got it working. PM me if any1 wants advise on the sata driver install during xp installation. Got a nice fix ;)

I still have one problem though, after dwnloading all the drivers off HP site I still get "Unknown device" in device manager :rolleyes: Strangely enough, everything seems to work. Emailed HP but no reply yet... Any1 here have the same machine running XP ?

Yep its been a common seller. Sold 2 of them today. Love the HP trackpads.

Is there even such thing as Core Duo? To my knowledge, i went from Pentium etc, to Core 2, and then to Core 2 Duo, to infinity and beyond.

Oh ya. I had it the wrong way around... First they added "Duo" and then "2"... Funny that... They mean practically the same thing anyway. Are they still calling the new 45nm CPUs Core 2 Quad, or have they figured out a new name yet?

2 make it easy for those struggling with the XP downgrade due to sata driver installation, I've got some guidelines;

Objective: To create a bootable XP disk incorporating your sata drivers.

1. Insert your XP disk on your optical drive.
2. Download your sata drivers off the HP site onto your hard drive.
3. Download and install nLite software. (freeware) go to softpedia.com
4. Create a folder on your hard drive and name it XP_530 or anything.
5. Run nLite, point it to the XP disk, then to the XP_530 when asked.
6. Click on "Drivers" and point to your unzipped sata drivers.
7. Click on "Intergrate drivers"
8. Run nLite again and burn to disk, voila!

Mine worked like a charm ;)

nLite is a strong contender for the "Most useful software ever" award :D

I think there's a vLite now as well. For Vista obviously. I'm not sure whether or not it's made by the same people though, so it might not be of the same quality as nLite. Anyone used the Vista version who can clarify?

I've seen the name, but never used it myself. Will probably have a look at it soon :)
