Tax Admin Penalty issued for 2008?!

They send me an penalty for late submission, but I am a provisional tax payer so I have a longer time to submit (Although I submitted about 2 days after the deadline for normal taxpayers). So I paid and filed a dispute.

Those MF can make a mistake, but if you make a mistake in your return they screw you over.

If its for a period so far back, its most likely an error from their system on their side...they should usually cancel it within 30 days. This is my personal experience on this - started with an SMS, then i logged on to efiling to check and well the call center was not helpful at all.

It's been more than 30 days and mine hasn't been cancelled and my dispute was rejected. But if yours was the same period and it was an error I'm hoping mine will be too.

My game plan: book an appointment > sort this out > hire tax consultant who knows the system and will draw blood from a stone
 
Did anyone really think SARS would be the only government department not stealing or corrupt?

Ja look, sars or not, it is a scam.

I got penalty randomly as well for 2008, a few months back. Before I got to SA. So yeah.
It was cheap enough, so just paid it to get rid of it. Not paying tv lic though :-)
 
Ah-HAH! I found documentation: I only registered as a taxpayer in 2012 so I don't know how they got 2008.

My next problem is I paid the dispute earlier today and now I can't undispute it: the button clicks but no one is on the other side.

Ja the kak think is once you're registered on eFiling you have to submit every single year, sometimes twice

Submitted a nil return - it took a while for SARS to get back to me and accept it.
The accountant thinks someone at SARS pressed an incorrect button somewhere because their company has had a lot of people come in with something similar and it's good business for them.
