Concerns over beggars regulating traffic at busy intersections during load-shedding

So what choice do you have, it's better to go with the flow. To try and stop and be the odd one out will cause more of a disruption and lead to greater danger.

From the Tshwane Metro Police Department Facebook page:

Our TMPD officers are deployed in most intersections to ensure free flow of traffic during morning peak hours, well done officers

Obviously I do not use "most intersections".

For those who don't understand...

I support them - who else is going to do it? JMPD? lol.
JMPD is more interested in collecting KFC money 50m from a busy intersection with dead lights.

There was one day I saw them at beyers and molope in randparkridge - the traffic was a disaster - they had no idea what they were doing and taxis were driving against instructions. We dont see that with the "informal" poinstmen.

Whenever I see a beggar directing traffic part of me gets irritated at them, but then I remember that they are actually doing more to improve my life in that moment than any government, local government, or political party member has done in the past year(s).

Had one today, as I arrived to take a turn, he decide, F this $hit and walked away. Traffic improved after he left. He clearly didn't get training from his friends up the road who flap there arms like a distressed Hadeda

Not under loadshedding but lol, I gave a R5 to this car guard at a random place on Friday afternoon. "God bless you sir, god bless you!", then proceeds to stand in the road, stop both lanes of traffic and let me through, felt like the president in a blue light brigade!

The guys frequenting one of the intersections on the way to work have now upgraded to franticly waving red flags at cars. Instructions being about as clear as you'd imagine.

Why don't traffic lights have secondary power? Why the large power cables to intersections? The power required for LED power lights are low.
You can run backup cables for these to central locations and not run direct power to each traffic light at an intersection.
I think there is some piggy stuff happening with the tenders for traffic lights.
Most definitely organized crime. That aside, just gives them more to be stolen.

Well we have clowns and thieves governing the country, how bad can beggars directing traffic really be?
The few intersections I have to commute through where said lads are directing traffic have flowed reasonably well. They are no worse than JMPD in their outcome.

JMPD are so seldom working major, important intersections that the lads are doing more good than bad.
