Concerns over beggars regulating traffic at busy intersections during load-shedding

Erm, I am referring to places that have the same or similar road setups that we do. USA, Europe, Aus, Singapore, and the rest of SA.

Here most people do not know the difference between a mini-traffic circle (first to stop, first to go) and a traffic circle (yield to traffic on your right).

At the two mini-circles on either side of the road I stay in you can stop and allow the other motorist who stopped before you at the mini-circle to go before you, but good luck with that, he/she is usually fast asleep/not alert/yielding to traffic on the right for as long as there is traffic approaching from the right!

It's just a fact that South African's don't know how these circles work. In fact, most drivers on the road are just terrible.

It's more obvious just how bad our roads are; when one visits the UK and drives on their roads. It's not as common to see idiots doing stupid things on their roads or just plain disregard for the rules.

they're more complaining about the absence of real traffic officers than the existence of unofficial traffic officers

can't fault them there, can't remember the last time I saw traffic cops directing traffic at busy intersections when the power is down

I did however recently cross such an intersection only to find a bunch of pig cnuts round the corner doing a roadblock to check for expired licenses ... literally 50m from the intersection that could so desperately use their help ... ffs, die in a fire pigs!

The only place I ever see JMPD doing point duty is at the intersection of Main Reef Road and Park Drive in Mayfair/Forsdburg and I kid you not, they often do it when the traffic lights are working as what I assume to be a traffic easing measure during peak hours. And guess what, I can usually tell when they are there because the traffic is awful and backed up all the way down Park Drive, so they somehow make things worse.

Its not just JMPD that can't do the job properly.

Used to happen in Durban in certain areas until many of us complained to the head of Metro police that his members were making the problem worse and adding 10 - 15minutes to any journey out of the area in rush hour traffic.

So what choice do you have, it's better to go with the flow. To try and stop and be the odd one out will cause more of a disruption and lead to greater danger.

Agree 100%. I try to stick to safe driving principles and hope for the best. Drivers are absolutely manic these days. Many are seen typing on the cellphone and have no idea what is happening around them.. Strange is that I am seeing more and more using flipping tablets on steering wheel, I kid you not.
