Concerns over beggars regulating traffic at busy intersections during load-shedding

So the article says, beggars and other unofficial traffic directors are a risk if they're followed and they're also a risk if they're not followed. So what must the driver do? Check the LS schedule and don't drive during LS?
Well, good idea. Let's just never drive during LS. :(

Maybe the City could hire a few of these people, deputise them, give them the gloves and badge and allow them to direct traffic for a small fee? Or maybe the road traffic act could be amended to allow such people to direct traffic so they could be hired by third parties who would then recoup from sponsorship as Outsurance does. By the way have not seen Outsurance around Cape Town since 2015.

Since the authorities are failing in everything, from provision of electricity, security, healthcare, postal services, transport to even this, then perhaps third party firms should take over. PnP could sponsor a team for example and everyone would know that you won't be late to work today because of PnP directing traffic in this area because traffic police are failing and need to man those cameras to increase revenue.
 
They wouldn't be doing this if the police were, instead of pigging out at a camera 200m before an off-ramp where the robots are out...
 
It's a lot more useful than just trying to invoke sympathy at a robot.

The worst is they have no started filling pot holes with all sort of crap (in some towns for a while now already I believe). But they are so full of drugs most of the time they stuff it with grass and leaves and sticks and bricks. THey do it also while cars are driving, So you now need to check that you dont hit a pothole and a beggar with his pothole broom. Once the hole is full, it looks like they start over again.

I doubt this. It can be argued that traffic lights were out of order and there was no effort to rectify the situation.

Real traffic cops are on the N3 outside of town doing thirsty work.
 
Saw TMPD arresting some of them on Hans Strijdom the other day. But they not there directing traffic.

I thank them mostly because they do assist but still the Metro should be doing it as this falls in their scope of work but they don't work so someone has to step in.

Typical of the cadres fvck everything up and someone else must pay and fix it and then they claim fame and fvck it up again.

I did however recently cross such an intersection only to find a bunch of pig cnuts round the corner doing a roadblock to check for expired licenses ... literally 50m from the intersection that could so desperately use their help ... ffs, die in a fire pigs!

Came here to comment exactly this! It annoys me so much when they can't be bothered to help direct traffic but they can sit there pulling off cars and causing more delays just down the road! (This happens very regularly around North Riding area).
 
I throw the coins at them. These guys don't know what they doing and think they are heroes. Accidents happen they walk away and it your fault.
And government not doing much about it, except saying it's our fault if we listen to them.

People should be swearing them off
 
Why don't traffic lights have secondary power? Why the large power cables to intersections? The power required for LED power lights are low.
You can run backup cables for these to central locations and not run direct power to each traffic light at an intersection.
I think there is some piggy stuff happening with the tenders for traffic lights.
