That's one game, which is non optimized port done by the same 3d party studio you can thank for Uncharted which also runs like rubbish on PC.

Yes, its always better to plan ahead but lets not pretend the guy building his PC today needs 16Gb VRAM to play games.

Of course it will be an issue for 8GB cards soon but anything more will be fine

Reason I went for the RX 6800 is not the VRAM but the performance at 4K and costing slightly more than a 3070

This information was confirmed during a press briefing, which usually takes place before each launch. Reviewers are now expecting their RTX 4070 test units to arrive early next week.

This is interesting, came in lower than I expected it would be.

I might wait for this if the price is reasonable like around 10-13k but I doubt it

$599 does work out to R10 675 without any tax

Edit : actually if the 4070 Ti’s performance is anything to go by the RX 6800 is still a beast for it’s price almost beats the 4070 Ti in many games sometimes by just 5fps max 10ths

The price difference is crazy 12k for 6800 and 18-19k for a 4070 TI just for a tiny increase in fps and obviously the 4070 non Ti will be less performance wise might not be worth it considering AMDs current options

He does use all max settings in each game so can reduce settings for a better experience 6800 is crazy for the money

@Lupus or anyone

Managed to find a refurbished AM4 B550-F board

Was thinking of a Ryzen 7 5700 X

Are these good and with pairing a RX 6800 what CPU on the AM4 platform would you recommend

It’s an 8 core CPU, it will be excellent.

The RX6800 will pair well with any AMD Zen 3+ or Intel 12gen+ CPU

There is no wrong choice here.

Yes Evetech, but here is a new B550 - https://www.evetech.co.za/asus-prime-b550m-k-amd-ryzen-motherboard/best-deal/8475.aspx

More expensive, but a known reputable seller - https://progenix.co.za/Components/M...550-Chipset-AM4-Micro-ATX-Desktop-Motherboard

But yeah, building is always fun and also slightly infuriating, as you can always “spend a little more” and end up way past budget, or have analysis paralysis :X3:

Thanks Kabal

Actually it’s perfect for the cost, saw a refurb motherboard on takealot have some spare ebucks so might do that on takealot

Just need a CPU cooler any recommendations preferably on takealot for one

<1K

Edit : also RAM 16Gb or 32gb ?

if I was gonna spend under 1K I would buy this, because I have just really liked the experience of using a 240mm AIO on my 5900x - https://www.wootware.co.za/id-cooling-frostflow-x-240-lite-240mm-liquid-cpu-cooler.html

As much ram as your budget allows. 16GB is 100% adequate, 32 is better.

Go 400 bucks more and get the rgb model and yes 32GB would be much better
Seems water cooling is now more cost effective compared to air cooling these days? There isn't any functional difference to the RGB version as opposed to non-RGB one right?

edit: I have a Gigabyte B660M board and I am currently running an i5-12400, 32GB 3600MHz C18 RAM with an RTX 3080 but it seems the i5 is holding the 3080 back.

If I swap out the i5 for an i7, what's the max CPU that would make sense paired with the rtx 3080? With BIOS update this board supports the 13th gen intel CPUs, I have a 750W PSU..

edit2: Then my case is quite small so I will probably have to go water cooling for an i7 as an air cooler that is larger than my current cooler (currently I have an Antec A400i max TDP up to 150W if I am not mistaken) won't fit in the case.

I don’t see how a 12400 is bottlenecking a 3080
Maybe compared to a 12900 at 1080p medium

what are you basing this on? Assuming you are also playing 1440p/4K.

Playing call of duty modern warfare (2022), when I run the game's benchmark it says my cpu is 99% of the bottleneck.
<edit>Playing in 1080p.</edit>

When playing the game, compared to my buddy with an i7-12700 and also an RTX 3080, I get around 12 - 15fps less than him in Invasion or DMZ due to the larger maps (maybe 105fps on average). When the frame rate goes below 100 I really feel it .

MSI afterburner says my GPU is running at only 55 - 60% and 54 - 55 degrees.

What are the rest of the specs? As this is a 2019 card
Intel Core i7 2600 3.1GHz
Socket 1155 Motherboard
16 gig DDR 3
RX 570 4GB gaming (Used)
240GB
1TB Sata HDD
Onboard Gigabit Ethernet
Armaggeddon Nimitz N5 Micro-ATX Gaming Case (new)
Yama Titan 550 watt
Win 10 pro
**Box Only**

:: 12 Months Carry-In Warranty ::

Maybe @bleakbliss has some affiliation to that website, those specs don't look that great, definitely not for the price of R7k

Yeah for that spec the 1660 isn't going to be much better then the rtx570 already in it.

Finally bought everything

Found a B550 motherboard on takealot (used them cause had some ebucks to reduce the cost )

Ended up going with

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

Asus B550-F ATX

Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x8GB 3600mhz

AMD really is awesome considering for 4 grand I got a 8 core 16 thread cpu
