When entering or exiting a roundabout (traffic circle), how do you typically indicate?
For argument's sake, assume a four-exit circle.

First exit (left turn):
1. Signal left only
2. Don't indicate at all
Second exit (straight):
3. Indicate right when entering, left when exiting
4. Only indicate left when exiting
5. Indicate right when entering, and keep it on until exit
6. Don't indicate at all
Third exit or beyond (right turn):
7. Signal right when entering, left when exiting
8. Signal right when entering, keep it on until you exit (no left signal)
9. Do not signal when entering, but signal left when exiting
10. Signal left before entering
11. Don’t signal at all

K53 was generally ok as a framework, but specifying different rules for different roundabouts has led to a very nebulous understanding of what needs to happen.

Of course, most of the general public don't particularly care about road rules so there is no special treatment for roundabouts.

Most people seem to drive much the same way as taxi drivers these days as there is Zero deterrent for abhorrent behaviour. The so called traffic police are indolent extortion artists.

1, 6, 8

Third exit or beyond (right turn):
7. Signal right when entering, left when exiting
8. Signal right when entering, keep it on until you exit (no left signal)

Only really need 7 here if you need to switch lanes with multi-lanes while in the circle.

Interesting how varied our answers are. Seems much clearer understood overseas.

Also, seems to be different attitudes between small and large circles.

1, 4, 7 or 1, 4, 9

I know you're supposed to indicate right when intending to exit to the right but it doesn't always seem necessary. For instance on a single lane roundabout if you're not indicating left (to exit immediately) than nobody should be trying to enter in front of you regardless.

1. Signal left only
4. Only indicate left when exiting
7 / 8 / 9. Do not signal when entering, but signal left when exiting if it is a small round about. For larger ones 7 and if it is the last exit 8

However none of this matters as no-one cares in KZN. It's matter of survival. I find it helps to slow down a lot.

Same way you do at a 4way stop.
Indicators to whatever way you turning, no indicator if you going straight.

Unless its those use 50m+ wide circles. Then indicators when you exit.

147 for a single lane roundabout
149 for a duel lane roundabout but always drive in the right lane when entering - unlike some idiots that change lanes while in the roundabout.

The OP is specifically referring to roundabouts/traffic circles, no mini circles which are treated just about like four way stops.

How did you manage to infer this from what the OP posted?
