New electricity prices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria

South Africa's four largest metropolitan municipalities will soon implement electricity tariff increases, mostly in line with Eskom's 9.01% hike in bulk electricity prices.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) recently published the approved tariff applications and cost-of-supply studies for 162 municipalities on its website.

Ridiculous!!! One hand they talk about making it cheaper, other hand we're being used and made fools.... Solar the best way when you can afford it

The metros have widely varying electricity pricing policies. Ethekwini has the simplest tariff structure but also the highest variable energy charge of R3.77 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Why do you call dbn charge variable?

Can someone link to CoCT time of use charges? Can't find anything on the city govt site.

That goes up to R4.70 for any energy consumed after 650kWh. If its tariff application is approved, it will be the first major metro to charge residents over R5 per kWh.
Ekurhuleni is R11.99.

The article doesn't state whether those prices are excluding VAT or including VAT

Current prices in Ekurhuleni until June 30th: tariff A R2. 59 excl VAT, R2. 97 incl. VAT.
Tariff B R3. 37 excl vat and R3. 88 incl. Vat
