Grand Theft Auto 6

I spent most of my money on Pentium IIs and IIIs, but my one friend had a PS2 and we kicked each others asses in Tekken 5. Good times.
In the 2000s?? Didn't like the P4 or the Athlons?

Dude my memory is hazy. I had a PIII 866 mhz or something like that in 2003. Ran Quake 3 pretty well if I remember.
It would :) quake 3 was from 1999. Jumps in tech in those days were immense. There are a few YouTubers I watch with retro tech and games from 1999 wouldn't run on 1997 hardware.
Whereas now games today can run on hardware from 2020 easily.

I remember Need for Speed Underground 2 (released in 2004) being a little bit too demanding on my hardware, I had a Matrox G400 at the time in 2003. I think we have long diverged from this thread though but it's been great re-jogging my memory.

For "TV games" sure, but not pc games.
Yes for pc games. Knew of quite a few of those shops around Pretoria and Centurion when I was in school. Even Randburg Waterfront :)

Much preferred original big box games but not all games were legit available in SA at the time and I was a kid with no money lol.

It's funny though, growing up I always threw all the big boxes away because I just saw it as packaging/trash lol. Only kept the discs/cases.

Today, games in their original big boxes are highly valuable collectors items. If only I knew....

I only have 1 big box game that survived till now and that's Gabriel Knight 3. All my other ancient games only have their original jewel cases left.

The colossal fortune these guys will make (again) on day 1 😱

Crazy. And no one will tell them to solve hunger and poverty in Africa like people do with that other guy lol....

Those prices are just placeholders from a retailer, not necessarily accurate. I still expect 80usd for the base game but let's see!

Yay, no dumb leaks because a store sent theirs out days early. This is the future.

Ok, so code-in-a-box will be available on the shelves from the 12th? No midnight release? Feels like I am missing something. Probably too big ..

The bigger message (which we already knew) is no PC version at launch...
