The official running thread™

Can you guys who know running shoes please recommend me a shoe for short 5km daily runs that have very good cushioning and maximum shock absorption, for someone recovering from a pretty bad lumbar disc herniation. Price around R2000-R2500.

Try and stretch the budget to R3000 and get the Nike Vomero 18 .My daily runs are +- 5 to 10kms , and they are brilliant .I previously had the Nike Pegasus.

Also go to a decent running shoe specialist shop and ask their advice.

Thanks. Looks like a great shoe.
The Vomero Plus is on sale right now (~R2 450 to ~R2 900 depending on the colourway) - this is at the official Nike stores. I tried to get one but they didn't have my size : (

Which pace are you looking at. For slower runs (or 4:00/km+ runs like the rest of us) you can also take a look at the Puma MagMax 2 or Salomon Aero Glide 3.

@Crusader I see the Puma shoes or at least some of them are on sale again, don't know if you saw
Yup. I saw. I already ordered the Deviate Pure Nitro with a discount code a couple weeks back and got the Magmax 2 from a Takealot sale. So I'm pretty much set for now.

I see the sale is now up to 50% off plus an extra 20% off (VIP20 code) on top of that which makes for some great deals, but the sizes are extremely limited.

If the Velocity 4 would work for someone that would be a steal at R1735. Sadly the shape just doesn't work for me. Tempted to try one size up at the sale price. :) From the brief test fit of the Deviate Pure Nitro that works much better for me, still need to be able to take it out for a run though, but it is highly likely it will become my new speedier shoe. (Which the Velocity 4 should have been. Luckily I still have 3 pairs of Velocity 3s too).

I'm just REALLY frustrated. I have all these new shoes to test, but after my fall I've had some kind of stomach bug and now ear/balance issues again. It's been 3 weeks since I could go for a run. 😭

I can't seem to apply the VIP20 code it doesn't work 😢. Does it work on your side, because for R1735 I might pick up a pair. I am however keen on trying other shoe brands just to see how they are.

I am sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you get better soon and up and running fast again.

Thanks. It was a stupid move to try sprinting in the wrong shoes and I slipped on loose dirt on the road. Both knees and left palm lost quite a bit of skin. Thankfully no other major damage (aside from some stiffness and bruising too) as far as I can tell. Knee seems fine, but must test it on a run to be sure.

It should work. Just make sure you pick a colorway that has a discount applied (red text). Sometimes trying another browser or clearing cookies/cache for Puma also works if it gives issues. And check that you don't have an already expired unused code applied.

Used this as example:

I am sure you will be back up in no time :)

I see the problem was, I wasn't signed in once I signed into my account the code applied
