Homemade Pizza

I bought 2, pizza for 5 is always a mission. Always used the oven previously, obviously never gets to the right temperature. Looking forward to seeing the result, if no further posts...........View attachment 1921155

Awesome! I think they are really good for the price. I run mine for 6min I think, haven't made one in a while.

Oh for ease of use I took a square piece of masonite and dust that with flour, then put my pizza on that, it is 100x easier than those metal ones which always cause the pizza dough to stick no matter what I tried. The pizza then just slides straight off that onto the stone ready for cooking.

Don't do it ON the metal that's why it's sticking.

You do it on your work surface and then slide the peel underneath it with semolina being your best friend of course.

Yeah I did that, I make it on my counter top then slide those things underneath, no matter what I put on them it always stuck in some way, even tried spray and cook, I eventually gave up and just slide my wooden contraption under the pizza and its perfect, just glides off

Wood Is more forgiving.

How has the metal peel worked for you. The more I read about the sticky issue, the more I realize a riffled metal peel is the worst possible idea
I don’t have any problems launching with it, and, since a lot less semolina makes it into the oven thanks to the slots, the pizzas taste better, but I can’t load it worth a damn so I’ve been using the smaller wooden peel I have. :(

Aha. Yeah im guessing the wood or bamboo ones perform better...

Slotted metal creates friction.... That's the last thing you want

So strange, my brain say it should be far worse but would need to buy one to try it and since I'm happy with the metal seems like a frivolous expense.

Maybe get one that works well at the table for presentation.

You have pizza a fair bit. Cholesterol ok? ;)
Doctor seems happy with it.

I use wood for building and launching - metal for turning and extraction. Mine is a shaped Acacia wood cheese board from Checkers which does the job nicely but I'll upgrade it to a proper one eventually. Apparently it's the thermal properties of the wood that help prevent sticking.

One thing I won't do is cut a pizza on it so using it for the table is out.

Yeah good point, cutting on it will definitely make it more sticky with time as it gets more ridges.

Speaking of peels - my setup is wood for prep and launch, turning peel... to turn the pizza, then a metal one to retrieve.

This guy basically nailed everything I'm struggling with. This is gonna cost me money now...
