FNB under fire for R25 monthly fee for business banking account holders

WTF. Where can I find this section online?

FNB's online banking UI is a hot mess with functionality available/unavailable depending on which banking profile type you're using as well as whether accessing from website or app. Email statement functionality was previously manageable from all banking profile types but from memory was removed about 5 years ago and is now only available via enterprise profile.

The postage rates do not appear on the current business pricing guide so the R28 quoted above is merely from the first personal price guide I downloaded - I have subsequently downloaded a few more and found these list R35 per posted statement.

FNB violating National Credit Act (NCA)

NCA
requires credit providers to deliver regular periodic statements to consumers.

Section 65 of NCA the credit provider must offer the consumer a choice.
When you open an account or sign a credit agreement, the bank must allow you to select your preferred method of delivery from the options legally specified in the Act:
  • Email
  • Ordinary post / mail
  • Fax
  • In person at the bank's business premises
  • A printable web page
The document is legally delivered when statement is sent via the consumer’s chosen mechanism.

"Downloadable Only" Fails the Legal Test
A downloadable-only model (where you must log into online banking or a mobile app to fetch the statement yourself) violates the NCA for three main reasons:
  1. "Delivery" Requires Pushing, Not Pulling: The NCA places the legal burden of delivering the document onto the credit provider. Making a statement available for download shifts the burden onto the consumer to log in and look for it. This is legally considered "making available," not "delivering."
  2. Access Barriers: The law protects consumers who may not have continuous internet access, data, or a smartphone. If a consumer selects physical post or direct email, the bank must respect that selection.
  3. The "Printable Web Page" Catch: While the NCA lists a "printable web page" as a delivery option, this is a method the consumer must actively choose. The bank cannot pre-select or force it as the only option available
Statements must be sent regularly

Guess a good thing I decided to get a second account for my business with bank zero, might be my only account soon

Bank Zero, just f..ked up within 4 days of opening an account, guess back to the drawing board and find an other bank as a second bank for my business.

Take note FNB, you might loose all my private accounts as well, but not to bank zero

Capitec Business.

Capitec Business.
Just signed up with them, took me like half an hour, have a working business account now. For Bank Zero being an online only bank they better jack up the processes.

Everything went far smoother with Capitec. I am still waiting for my business account to be opened and fica to be verified with Bank Zero, although I already started the process with them of canceling the non opened account

I'm so glad I left them a long time ago, worst service I've ever experienced at a bank! There is always something at fnb!!
Actually started the process last week. Takes them 2 weeks to close a fusion account. I see on the app they at least closed the credit card so far.

FNB's new R25 fee for email statements

FNB has come under fire for introducing a R25 monthly fee for business banking account holders who receive their statements via email.

The bank already announced the change in its annual pricing update, which was first communicated to customers at the start of June 2026.
Next time FNB puts out a tender for an ISP, I’m on it.

if R25 is impacting your business, you have other problems and its not FNB...
No no. That is not the point.

Once a company starts with stealth billing and nickle and diming you you can be sure that they don't give a hoot. This is an issue about trust. And you have to be able trust your bank. Because once this behaviour starts it escalates.

So I *hate* stealth billing and junk fees. If you know how it got out of hand in the US you will know that if this thing gets out of hand it ain't pretty. We got to nip it in the bud. Hard.

I don't want junk fees, and crazy tipping culture and all that crap in South Africa.

The beauty is there are other banks. We need to send a message.

Two things about FNB:

- FNB doesn't like poverty, So if you are the kind of person who checks their bank statement stay away.
- FNB is a bank for people with a fetish for pain, If you don't like pain stay away.
