Chris Nolan's - The Odyssey.

I intentionally dodged the memes and reviews so I could watch today with an open mind: quite good and even for a long movie it was certainly not boring. I am told it kept fairly close to the versions (3 translations?) of the book, with a mild departure and return at some point. I do not think watching it at home would have done it much justice: we watched at Rosebank iMAX which is apparently a laser version.

The controversial castings were kinda who-cares (and get over yourself) and generally fit their cast roles quite well.

Did it actually feature the gods and goddesses or just Athena?

Not to my understanding. The "Athena" character (Zendaya) was the only god portrayed (few lines, but does pull a lot of the story together). The rest of the gods are mostly eluded to by their actions. The focus is primarily on Odysseus and Telemachus and the characters needed for their timelines.

It was an interesting casting and the less popular/now stars got a lot more lines, but everyone had a part that needed to pull the story together on screen.

Also, it was nice to see the cinema actually quite full (early Saturday slot), and how many people stayed to the end of the credits (including barking at the cleaners who switched on the house lights part way through the cast roll). This is not a big Holywood action movie, for the sake of being action, but certainly big on budget... I would not be surprised if a few nominations happen.
 
Watched it on IMAX. Very, very good. Well worth watching on IMAX if you get the chance. The performances in general are very impressive, but I think Nolan's excellent directing comes in when you look at how many of those performances (excepting Damon) don't actually get much screen time. Samantha Morton stands out, especially.

Hoyte van Hoytema is a master. It's worth watching for his work alone. Ludwig Göransson also did some really interesting stuff with the score. Keen to listen to it on its own to give it some room to breathe.

So I went to watch last night (ended at 22:00), I give it a 8/10. For the two and a half (and something) hours runtime I didn't even feel bored or distracted or my mind wandering at all.

And the big deal about the castings by the right, shows they are just as dumb as the left.

You've covered the visuals, audio, cast and actiong - however, how would say the actual story and or adation was done?
