The official running thread™

That's a relief. I was feeling terrible in comparison.

A surprisingly good base run for me today. Not sure what I did to get so much zone 2 in. Guess I managed to just barely hang in the top end for the run.

Yeah I also struggle to stay in zone 2. Wednesday is my slow run day, will post a more accurate reading then :D

Because you said I should start doing training....

It will change your running forever :)

I keep it very simple, as I have learnt that if the routine is very long I tend to eventually skip exercises and then do it half-ass.

At the moment I do push-ups, barbell curls and burpees. Then legs it's the following 3 excercises:

Onedayonly has plenty of Brooks running shoes for R1900 and carbon shoes for R2900 if you are looking for new shoes.

I thought Garmin was bluffing by showing two anaerobic sessions for this week.

Garmin was NOT bluffing.

While doing the intervals I started to run out of road compared to the previous one. Then I realised the bastard had even increased the duration to 1:00!

I managed to finally get a actual easy run in. Slowly getting some fitness back but man....I really need to get that qualifying marathon in for two oceans but also dont want to get injured.

Garmin had me down for a 1:25:00 long run before I did my anaerobic session yesterday. Thankfully that changed to only 42 minutes. Wanted to get the 10K badge so extended the run. I really should stop pushing the speed once I finally get to the downhill bits. It always pushes me into tempo territory.

Did a long run again at lunch time (it was nice weather for running). Felt good, but exhausted after. Feeling confident at doing the Gun Run in 2 weeks though. Paused a but near the end to stretch a bit as I was feeling a bit stiff.

Ok guys...do I really need running shoes with carbon fibre plates for marathons  Looking at the prices....eish
I don't think so. I have a pair that I got for cheap (a year old version) and I don't think I'm going to use them with my next few races. After my shin splint issues that I got while using them, I don't want to risk it for a bit.

Sjoe, I am worried about shin splints  I am trying to take things slowly but stressing I am running out of time for the qualifying marathon

I recall seeing a study a while back that found that you only really get the benefit of carbon plates if you run something like sub 4:00-4:30/km. If you are slower than that you are better off with a "normal" shoe. Can't remember where I saw it.
