Openserve reveals 1Gbps fibre-to-the-home products

RSAWEB now has the 1Gbps OS service. What is happening with other ISPs!!!

No one knows. This is a very slow process for the isp`s to get OS gig fibre. We are all waiting for Afrihost to give feedback.

Very curious what the non "launch special" price will be.

So far I have seen
Atomic - R1,899/pm
RSAweb - R1695/pm
CISP - R1699/pm

@CoolEscalator - Could you confirm what the non "launch special" price will be?
This has unfortunately not been announced as yet, as No date mentioned thus far.
This will likely only be comunicated with the annual price changes.
 
Anyone else has upgraded to 1000/500 with OS?

Moved fibre to RSAWeb, but only getting between 890 and 930Mbps.

I get the overheads and all but was hoping to get >=970Mbps. I know this may be a 1st world problem, but trying to understand if its the ISP or is it expected for the 1Gbps service.

With previous ISP at 500/250, download speeds were 545Mbps.

That is well within the expected real-world speeds for a 1Gbps service running over PPPOE. Unfortunately Openserve is still stuck in the stone age with legacy PPPOE, most likely because it enabled them to move over from ADSL to fibre more seamlessly. But they really need to start moving over to IPoE and DHCP.

Yeah with PPPoE, 930-940max (maybe) is completely normal for PPPoE.
If your Router, ONT and PC NIC is 2.5G (or 1Gbps+), then you will start to see 1100mbps or in the range
Very similar to 100/100 on a Non-gigabit device, you will be getting 94/94mbps
Once you upgrade to a gigabit Router, you will get around 110/110mbps

Just LAN negotiation with the IP overhead

Nope, it wouldn't be MTU that's the main factor, but instead LAN limitations.

Some FNO's support 1500 (1508 - 8 ) on PPPoE (like Metro Fibre) where, on a Supported router, you can achieve 1500.
But your router would need to support Jumbo/Baby Jumbo Frames

But yes with 1500 you would potentially get closer to 940-950(maybe) more consistently. But LAN negotiation is still the main limitiation.
