Vodacom launches PowerFlex - a competitor for MTN SuperFlex

Any update on whether we can use existing sim/number?

Also wanting to know the same…. I’d move in a heart beat away from MTN. I dislike them and their shocking customer service.

Anyone have an update here at all, I’ve tried calling and messaging Vodacom support… they don’t even know what I’m talking about when I ask to keep/ port my existing number with PowerFlex.

It still says you will be issued a new SIM with a new number. My thinking is to move my current number to a prepaid eSIM, and then to buy the powerflex physical SIM. So people can still call me on my old number, but I can use the powerflex for everything else.

Relocated for work and the mtn network is horrible here so I had to port to vodacom but now I'm struggling with making call because I have to keep on buying 60 min all network for R12 everyday. 400 voice contract cost R400, I used to be on mtn Supaflex and paid R299 for unlimited calls, what options do I have on vodacom? I can't change number to get Powerflex

The whole world is moving away from complicated tariffs and plans and yet here, in SA, the duopoly is duking it out to see who can come up with the most innovative repackaging of the same old tariffs to add to their ever-growing list of packages and plans.
Gotta bullschit customers into thinking they're getting the best deal.

Finally!!

We can keep our existing numbers and move to Vodacom PowerFlex!
Good news, but I think there is a lot of room for them to offer a lower priced option to match MTN's - R450pm for the cheapest PowerFlex is still heavy for someone who is used to being on a 79c per minute prepaid package and who either already has a second data sim in their dual sim phone and/or is on constant WIFI at home and work. You'd have to talk for 569minutes per month to break even on that R450pm - I know I don't even talk that much on my office landline in month - way more WhatsApp conversations take place now.

I'd take up this PowerFlex at around the R200-R250pm mark - they can even keep their data bundle or offer a couple of GB.

vodacom is hella expensive but their reception is good more especially for some of us in rural areas. I ended up getting a 400min 2.6gb red top up contract for 380pm. The sim was mainly for calls, I have been on it since November. The minutes are fine, at home I have wifi and at work nothing and I have noticed that the data just to keep whatsapo on at work is too little I end up supplementing. The thing with vodacom contracts you can't get both data and minutes you have to choose a side and the other becomes less. So now do I cancel and take the powerflex since with the supplementary data that I buy the cost ends up almost the same amount as the Powerflex 🤔

I have been on the phone with 2 vodacom agents and all of them were not aware that now you can move your prepaid number to powerflex. It's still not clear which prepaid customers are eligible to move to powerflex.

I got a qoute to cancel my top up, not bad. The problem now if I cancel will I qualify for powerflex since it's for certain prepaid customers.

I actually wish that Vodacom would simplify its packages and package names.

Literally have three dropdowns with minutes, data & sms - and spit out a price. Make the drop downs HiFi knobs or combination locks to look pretty and call it Vodacom Your Plan.

Now - where's my $1trn?

Not sure if this helps…

Walked into Vodacom today, bought (ended up being free) and RICA’d a new prepaid SIM. Ported from my MTN SuperFlex deal to Vodacom at lunchtime. By 21:30, my MTN SIM had no service, so I popped the Vodacom SIM in. Loaded R10 airtime to activate incoming calls and text messages. Signed up for the PowerFlex package. All sorted, and I’m now on Vodacom, with 5G - just like that.

Hoping I’m able to set up my wearable eSIM tomorrow with OneNumber and Vodacom PowerFlex.

Went overseas recently, and my MTN international roaming was on. Got to the country, and nothing… international roaming wasn’t working. Spent three days going back and forth with MTN - nothing. No one could activate it or help me. I was stuck without OTPs for my banking and other logins. That really upset me.

Also, my MTN SIM never had 5G, no matter what I did or how many times I asked for help. But my wife had no issues.

MTN just sucks. Still no support for prepaid eSIMs for wearables, so I can’t connect my watch. I cancelled my MTN sim-only contract - where my wearable eSIM worked - because they billed me in arrears, and it went on my credit record as missed payments. Bunch of imbeciles… I tried to get those removed from my name because it wasn’t my fault; it was set up for debit orders. A couple of years later, and I’m still stuck with those missed payments on my record.

The only reason I didn’t switch to Vodacom sooner was that they didn’t offer an option to keep my existing number and move to the PowerFlex package.

Did you manage to get a data sim on the Vodacom Powerflex package, do you know if its possible?

Necro,

I just noticed I got 3 months of Powerflex data and minutes allocated to my account. The amount that went off my card was for 1 month.

Weirs shiit.
