Calling any 087 number is a premium number & you will be billed about R2 / minute.
Plus it is much more expensive then calling from a regular phone (using a calling card)
EXAMPLE: calling UK - You will be paying R2 / min by calling via a 087 number-this is DAMN too expensive to call UK. i tell u why
* There are many calling cards out there - this is how it works
You will call a Local number (and pay local rates - example 16c offpeak) + FREE minutes will apply (if u use a closer plan it is FREE)
Then the rate on the calling card to call UK is 25c. so in total u will be paying 41c a minute compared to R2 a minute

*** How do these guys make money - All these companies offering these so called FREE calling is actually making a killing and many of them illegally (will expline below)

For every call made to any of these 087 numbers - the owner of the numbers gets a kick back from the providers (example if you call from a VOdacom number - vodacom will give the owner a kickback per minue), so what they do is they connect the numbers to allow the caller to make international calls (but you will notice you will only be able to call CHEAP destinations, so that the owners of these numbers do not loose)

Now all this is 100% legal, but what many of these people do is every now and then they disconnect the international calling for few minutes, so what happens is that when a caller calls the number they still get there kickback & the caller is charged for calling the number (but the caller is not connected & the owner of the number is making $)
* I am aware that ICASA is monitoring this as companies with these numbers are not playing "fair"

Conclusion - NOTHING is FREE & if you work out the cost of the so called FREE call it cost much more then the cost of a PC or calling card call.

*** >>> I know of a VERY GOOD quality / cheap calling cards that can be used from any phone in SOUTH AFRICA -
PM me if u want to know more
