We have to realise that this country of ours has certain realities that needs to be addressed in the RIGHT way (not SAA/SABC/any generic government owned company's way).

Just my 2c.

Discriminating against an individual based on the colour of his skin is never 'the right way'. Companies are just as culpable as the government.

Tell that to the millions of non-whites who experienced systemic state-driven policies that specifically excluded them (no quote or EE plan - just excluded). It's like running a race with one guy already 400m ahead of the rest - how will you get on the same level? The issue is that if done correctly, AA can help to close the gap. Do yourself a favor and look the StatsSA quarterly labour force survey.

Ohhhh and AA is not only about race, but about gender, disabilities, etc.

Can you tell me what correct level is?

Edit:

2nd question.
If an OM business has "enough" white people, will they not say "NO" to a white candidate?

1. Correct level depends on what their policies say - in every organisation there are mandate levels to sign off on certain things.
2. Cannot say - depends on what their AA policies are.

No problem. Discriminating against an individual based on the colour of his skin is never justified.

It might be news to you but not all white people were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and neither are they responsible for what somebody, who just happens to be of the same race as them, did in the past.

Hi there.

This isn't a thread about whether BEE or AA is right.
Start another thread about that.

I'm just trying to find out what the "rules" are as I'm trying to get a new contract.
My first choice was Old Mutual, I've worked there for many years.

Anyway, if you have some actual value to add please do so.

He asked...I tried to answer. I can understand that this is a sensitive issue to various people, but I am giving my 2c on a public forum. Like/don't like the perceived value...it's up to you.

That's exactly what I expect. They have decided the easiest way to get the numbers right it to do this.

I don't want to support companies who think like this.
You hire a person and a skill, not a coloured body

And yet if they don't conform to BEE they are likely to fail and then you shouldn't support them either.

I don't care, BEE and AA have hurt black people far more than white people though the incompetence and corruption they facilitate.

White people will sit with lower paying jobs, whilst the everyone sits with BEE complied rubbish. This is the future black people wanted, and is the future I hold them responsible for.
