10 Super-Nutrients for a Flat Belly

I have the same issue with gym so i have decided to do the home thing. I cycle daily because once i am outside on the bike there is no going back and the fresh air is actually nice, also the weights at home make you flexible and i watch tv while doing the weights which keeps me entertained.

Korn i will do something about listing them in a couple hours.

I do still run at least once a week where I used to run every day. Just lacking motivation these days.

Also have to agree I love the fresh air!

that's wrong though.

You can exercise all you want and won't really see much of a difference if your not eating right.

Nope, it's right! It's simple maths really, burn off more calories than you put in and you will lose weight. What you eat does of course affect your overall health as some calories may be far more beneficial/healthy than others.

But you still have to eat right.

You can't go to the gym and burn 500 calories and then go to KFC and order a bucket of wings :p Not a joke. I know some people that complain that they can't lose weight, but they exercise eat a bucket of KFC and then for their health they will order a diet coke and a salad.

Nope this is ignorance at it's best, exercise without diet will get you nowhere.

I am willing to bet money that an over weight person would lose more just by eating right than he would by eating poor and exercising daily. The fat disappears quickly when u eat right.

It's similar to people who think starving themselves will make them lose weight when they actually just need to more of the right things and they will see far better results. Losing weight is not about burning off more than you eat, it's far more involved and eating the right things is the only effective way to lose weight. Exercising then really produces the results.

What is the point of going to gym and burning off all the crap you eaten, how do start losing weight?
There is nothing more amusing than people who will go order a pizza or some kind of junk food and buy a diet coke LOL, i mean really are you joking? A glass of water should suffice i am sure.

There is also another thing i read about drinking cold drinks with food(including cold water), it's not very good. You should drink something warm like tea or nothing at all.

I'm sorry but you are wrong again. Eating healthy no doubt helps matters because if you are putting in less calories then you have less to burn off. And there is nothing wrong with ordering that diet coke and salad. It is putting in less calories than if they had the KFC with coke and fried chips.

Endomondo, exercise software for cellphones, equates your exercise to how many burgers you have burnt off. Do a decent ride for a few hours and you have burnt off a few burgers worth of calories.

Again, no denying that eating healthy is better for your overall health but if you are eating rubbish but burning off enough calories you will lose weight. And exercise is not sitting on the stationary bike at gym casually turning your legs while reading the paper.

Please research. Thanks.

And I never said exercise alone. A mix of the two is the best solution but some go the diet route only. Exercise helps keep those pounds off and increases your metabolism.

this has got to be the biggest load of codswallop i've ever heard. i was anorexic and never had a flat stomach. i always had a little belly. at my lowest weight, which was 32 kgs, i had a little tummy. and don't tell me i saw fat because i was anorexic and anorexic's see's fat. i saw it with my own eyes. all my life i've had a tummy which i've never ever been able to get rid of no matter what i did, run, jump, skip, hop, walk, swim. if you are prone to the tummy syndrome then nothing will rid you of it, whether it's small or big.

and that's my 10 cents worth.

when you were anorexic what were you eating? 32kgs? OMFG you surely were not eating well which means bloat, even anorexic people will suffer with their tummy if they do not the right things.

The point of this thread is that you won't get rid of your tummy fat unless you eat the right things. Give it a bash only eat the foods mentioned in this thread for a month and let us know how it goes. How much salt do you eat celine? Look at those starving kids in somolia they all have one thing in common and that is a bloated belly, they are anorexic with bloated bellies sadly. A gut means you are not eating well.

Clint you can lose plenty weight just by eating right. We put on weight because we eat processed food with little to no nutrition. If you want a flat tummy you must eat right, you can do 6 hours gym a day if you are not eating right your tum tum will be bloated and fat.

Well I'm a freak. I have never weighed more than 80kgs, usually around 75kgs, and eat what I like. I had stopped exercising a lot a few months back and was pushing the 80kg limit. In November I started mountain biking, usually at least 3 times a week with rides for around an hour and a half but sometimes more, and the weight has fallen off with no specific change in my diet.

In saying this, I know we are all different but diet alone is not the way to go. Nor is exercise probably. A mix of the two makes the most sense. They both have other beneficial side effects. Healthy eating will mean less cholesterol and other things associated with bad eating. More exercise will mean better muscle tone, stronger heart etc.

I've been reading "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes and have found it fascinating but heavy going especially the first book due to the amount of scientific reference material contained therein. "Why We Get Fat" is a much easier read.

I would recommend his books to anyone who wants to understand the science behind nutrition and weight gain and is serious about losing weight. But be aware he will challenge a lot of your preconceived ideas so have an open mind.

Here is a quote from Gary

In the past decade, clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated that when obese and overweight individuals consciously restrict the carbohydrates they eat, but not calories, they not only lose weight, on average, but their heart disease and diabetes risk factors improve significantly. Their insulin resistance, in effect, resolves. Those of us who have lost weight ourselves and witnessed the effect of these diets on our patients can confirm that this is exactly what happens.

This is accompanied by another well-accepted effect of carbohydrate-restriction – intrusive and obsessive thoughts of food seem to disappear on these diets. In fact, the American Medical Association has described the absence of hunger (technically “anorexia”) as a well-known side effect of diets that severely restrict carbohydrate content but otherwise allow dieters to eat as many calories (from fat and protein) as they want.

you can read the letter that was extracted from here

Gary's website is here

True,if you don't eat right you won't see the results.Remember you can't put diesel in a petrol car, that's how one should view a diet if you get what I mean :)

Guys, so tell me how you think you lose weight if it does not boil down to burning more calories than you consume?

Not at all, that is the simplistic silly way to look at it and it is simply not true. So many nutrients have so many functions that help you lose weight. The trouble with processed food is sodium.

Two examples i will use quickly, sodium which is found in all processed food causes bloating because the cells in your tummy i think cannot absorb the water so the answer for that is cutting down on sodium and introducing potassium, potassium helps the cells absorb water which makes you less bloated and less fat looking :D. Now if we went according to your way of thinking we would still be bloated even though we exercised all the kfc off.

Grapefruit is a documented fat fighter, studies have shown that eating it before a meal will help you lose weight(without exercise).I will copy and paste later what fruit does what as i have the memory of a fish but the basic idea is eat fresh fruit and eat a lot of it if you want to lose weight, obviously i am not talking 20 oranges and 20 or 30 apples but a couple banana's, avo's, tomato basically fresh produce will make you lose weight more than exercise and a poor diet but as soon as i am home i will copy and paste some of my bookmarks.

because you are dealing with biology and not physics, it's not a straight forward relationship between calories in and calories out, it depends on the nature and composition of the calories as well as your own physical make up and genetics

you still have to be careful about excess fruit intake because of the fructose content, fructose is metabolized in the liver and is processed as fat and stored in our fat tissue

So then everyone putting forward their theories as a one size fits all solution are equally incorrect?

And killadoob, I am not aware of anyone who only eats one food type. If you were to JUST eat grapefruit for instance you would run into a whole new set of issues.

I know a fair few triathletes. I eat with them and they order cheese burgers with chips and regular coke. I have rarely heard them speaking of a special diet they are on, and no they aren't olympians who I'm sure would have special diets, and yet not one of them are in any way overweight. They exercise, a lot!

Grapefruit does something with insulin levels I think? I also read that the amount of carbs we need is like the equivalent to one bowl of high fiber cereal or 1 slice of whole wheat bread a day. Though this depends . Also I think it is key to try retain as much muscle mass as possible while losing weight

Boet i said i would give you two examples until i got home :D. I cannot sit and list each thing at work haha.

Yea most fruit is good for insulin levels which allows your body to climb into the stock piles, if you spike your insulin levels then your body starts storing or the other way around, i will check my link at home cause fish have better memories than me, hense you start getting fat when you eat shyte but i will go into a bit more as soon as i am home clint :D. eating one thing is never good. Majority of fruit has something to help you which is why you should eat a variety of it but i will post in more detail later on.
