10 Super-Nutrients for a Flat Belly

3 weeks and you have only lost less than 1kg that is terrible dude.

Geez, try eating those listed foods only for 3 weeks and report back. I dunno about carbs dude, it drives your body but everyone is different. What fruit and veggies do you eat?

I have lost more than a 1kg in the last week or so, it seems a bit much it has taken you 3 weeks. I am sure though since i started eating all those above foods i am not retaining water whichis why i have lost the weight but water retention is the devil i tell you.

What kind of fat are you eating? Any kind of fat?

Clint i have never disputed that exercise is a good thing, i have said if you want to see results fast eat well. If you want slow unhealthy weight loss eat that burger and chips and go to gym thinking you are going to loss weight. For weight loss you need more than exercise because eating well aids your weight loss, eating crap hinders weight loss. There is no nutrition in shyte food. How many people who eat well do you know that you can say are fat? Ever seen a fat vegan? Nope neither have i.

I won't concede that eating poorly and exercise will result in weight loss.

The fact that I have only lost 1kg doesn't phase me, what I'm happy about is that I have finally broken the 85kg mark and for ClintX my size 34 pants are starting to get baggy and I'm able to get into a 32 again, I've been at this game so often I know that it's not just about the kg's but about the measurements and I also have no desire to be like Arnie :D

With regards the carbs, carbs are the killer, you do not require carbs to fuel the body, carbs elevate insulin levels, elevated insulin reduces the body's ability to process fat.

As per Prophet I don't view this as a diet but as a change of eating habits so I'm not in a rush to get results and I'm also into it being a sustainable lifestyle. With regards the fat question I'm eating animal fats, and I know the next thing will be "but what about the cholesterol?" just another fallacy.

Anyway, we could probably debate this until the cows come home, I've tried all the traditional approaches and got the same results in the past, this time I want a different result so I'm taking a different approach based on the science of nutrition and how the body works. Tim Noakes changed his approach which got me thinking so I'm following a similar approach through educating myself first and it's been an enlightening journey so far.

when you were anorexic what were you eating? 32kgs? OMFG you surely were not eating well which means bloat, even anorexic people will suffer with their tummy if they do not the right things.

The point of this thread is that you won't get rid of your tummy fat unless you eat the right things. Give it a bash only eat the foods mentioned in this thread for a month and let us know how it goes. How much salt do you eat celine? Look at those starving kids in somolia they all have one thing in common and that is a bloated belly, they are anorexic with bloated bellies sadly. A gut means you are not eating well.

Clint you can lose plenty weight just by eating right. We put on weight because we eat processed food with little to no nutrition. If you want a flat tummy you must eat right, you can do 6 hours gym a day if you are not eating right your tum tum will be bloated and fat.

listen up now doob........it doesn't mean because i was anorexic i had bloat. about a year and a half ago i started losing weight again for no reason at all. i was eating normally and something was wrong. i have no clue to this day what was going on with my body but i lost a massive amount of weight again. i went for tests, diabetes, cancer, thyroid, cholestrol, etc and nothing showed up in these tests. everything was ok. i spent over R4000 on these tests. my bones were once again protruding because of the weight loss.

i then decided that my children and husband were complaining so much i needed to try do something about it and eating a normal healthy diet wasn't working for me so i scoffed myself with chocolates, sweets, biscuits, chips, you name it. all the unhealthy stuff to get to put some weight back on. i even drank complan to help me. and again i didn't have a flat stomach.

Yea my ex fiancee was like that, her family constantly moaned but i loved it but she ate like a horse. No idea how she managed to stay so thin and eat so well i guess some people are blessed although she had to hear, you are looking anorexic way too often.

some people cannot put on weight i guess. Look this topic is not a general thing aimed at everyone but if your tummy has never been flat perhaps you are allergic to something and don't know it. Have you ever been tested for wheat allergies, perhaps you cannot handle dairy well but wow to have no reason why your tummy won't go flat is weird but i think your case is not something that happens very often.

I'm going to share diet that is working wonders for me (from a dietician that was recommended by a surgeon at Milpark hospital -- long story :p)

There is a few key ingredients I think you are missing btw: Capsicum, teas like green tea, rooibos, ... are good boosters for the metabolism. I.e. add chilli or cayenne pepper to each meal. Also end the meal with a tea to not only settle but also aid digestion and metabolism (standard practice in the east)

What has worked for me is the following: determine your RMR
http://www.start-losing-weight-today.com/rmr.html

To know your Ideal weight calculator, I'd recommend this over BMI I.e. it takes into account body type (ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph)
http://www.start-losing-weight-today.com/body-frame-size.html

Eat way less than your RMR if you want to lose and more if you want to gain, pitch around this is you want to stabilize.

Basically the diet is avoid all sugars (incl. what they call sugar free, and especially fructose) , avoid all fake crap (low fat, sugar free, ...), avoid all modified oils.

Eat basically organic, and unprocessed foods, enjoy your steak, etc. but stay below your RMR each day (btw this is not Atkins so don't try to avoid carbs; keep them low but don't avoid) -- eat a minimum of 6 smaller meals per day to keep your metabolism ticking and drink lots of water (no fruit juice or sodas).

When you feel "hungry"; ask yourself the question whether you would eat broccoli or a tomato or an orange (if the answer is no, don't eat -- re it's a craving, not hunger)

Definetly avoid soy products, yes even the body building or weight loss crap. If you prefer these, then rather target whey as opposed to soy. I.e. most soy on the market are genetically modified (not the real thing), and anyway it's not beneficial unless it's fermented e.g. soy sauce

Then 1 day each week, go on an all out binge (yes eat anything you want, no restriction :p) -- this is to restart your metabolism I.e. prevent hitting or getting stuck on plateau where you can't seem to lose weight.

I have lost 22kgs in just over a month doing this; and yes no jokes: down two trouser sizes, and I have the starting of a good six pack (body fat is currently 11%)

Exercise is vital btw, especially cardial vascular, start the toning stuff only once you've lost most of the fat.

Yes to your question, and it was just over a month (~7 weeks). Diet & exercise...

LOL just over a month is 5 weeks not 7, you should say just under two months :p

Stick to the point I.e. no value in quibbling about your opinion of what constitutes "just over a month"

Fair enough haha, your post is good though and eating unprocessed foods and cutting out fruit juice and soda is the way to go.

Good to know we're at least on the same page... :D

Btw many years back I had tried Atkins and aside from the quick drop in kgs; I found the constipation and diet to be unsustainable (you felt like you were being deprived).

At least this one feels like something I can keep up for life :D

I had to do something about my weight after I broke my elbow rather badly and couldn't lift weights for 8 months. I used the anabolic diet, which is basically medium protein plus low carb high fat during the week and high carb low fat on weekends. I also started lifting weights regularly and went from 81kg 22% body fat to 67kg 6.7% bodyfat in the first 6 months.

Then I needed to build some muscle so relaxed the diet for 6 months and built up some muscle (and fat though never over 10%), then got strict and cut the fat for december down to 5.5% at 73kg. At the moment I'm about 7-8% 74-75kgkg which is a comfortable winter level for myself, and will trim to super low levels again when the weather starts warming up.

From my experience with losing fat it's all about the diet. At the very least 80% diet. I quite like the anabolic diet but I've since changed it slightly. I now eat far more leafy greens so I'm low-medium carb 6 days a week and cheat on sundays. My daily diet consists of about 2000 calories/day now and is generally made up of 500g of leanish meat of some sorts, 1.1-1.2kg of low carb veg, 3 eggs and 130-140g of cheese (I love cheese!) a day. Oh yes, I also have a big bowl of carb free jelly every night :)

I don't believe in using supplements, and haven't felt the need for any. Oh and I don't drink calories apart from Sunday. My standard drink is rooibos sweetened with stevia. It's great hot or iced and I go through four liters of the stuff a day!

This is pretty easy to maintain, I don't feel hungry and I look good most of the time. On Mondays I look bloated though due to sundays cheat.

One positive I've noticed is that I haven't gotten sick since I started eating properly. Not even a sniffle in 18 months when many around me were sick. My sex life has also hugely improved. Lean on the outside generally means lean on the inside ie. good blood flow :)

It's really worked amazingly well, and I do get quite a kick out of the female attention a good bod on the beach attracts...
