100 000 posts

Thanks for the feedback.

This is easy to achieve (we can even add in new categories), but as usual the members will have to agree to any changes. How do you guys feel regarding a change in ‘titles’? Comments?

Has anybody used Orkut before (its invite only - if you want an invitation pm me)? They have quite an interesting system where you can vote for people and it shows up as smilies or ice-blocks and so on. Its all anonymous as far as I know. Maybe something like that would work on myadsl where forumites can vote for each other in different categories or something. Just an idea.

Based on the amount of posts made these days by your average member, I'd agree to a review of the status levels.
 
I personally don't think the amount of posts one makes adds to a persons status. Think quality, not quantity. For me, just because a person has a post count of 3000 and 20 posts a day just means he posts a lot. Some of the best contributing members haven't even reached 1000 posts yet (eg. rpm). So perhaps another system should be looked at. Maybe something like slashdot's karma or the orkut system I mentioned where users can vote for each other or something like that.

I agree. Personaly I do mostly "useless" post just to add my 2c worth. How is it then fair to give me the same status (eventually) as a "MyADSL ***", who contributes meaningfull stuff. I think a status based on merrit (if possible) should be looked at, but hey... That's only my 2c worth. :D
 
Disagree with all commentary about post counting and awarding of titles - it's akin to that found in sectarian movements, with dubious self-aggrandisement (and very close to masturbation, IMHO). If any peeps want status or their ego's stroked, the way to do it is through the quality of your posting, which has nothing to do with fancy avatars, either. I find it quite interesting to formulate potential personality types based on that posted, particularly when I'm surprised by subsequent postings. For e.g., I knew well before it was subsequently confirmed (as I'm sure a number of others did, too), that kilps was still at school, and that rpm was an academic. By the same token, I'm sure that many are convinced I'm quite anal (and it has nothing to do with me ma's dog's bum, either)... :) :p

I have a team of experts who review everything I post prior to it hitting the web, although if truth be told, they are usually too sozzled to stand up straight, let alone review my ramblings ! - I'll fire the lot of them this evening !

Anyway, as I was saying, all my posts are extremely important, especially those about "The way of the Scchpooen !" (there is no Scchpooen !)

/me racks up another incredibly significant post to his overall post count and pretends it really means something ...

provocative. could not agree more that quantity does not guarantee quality and it would be nice to have a workable system based on this. @ the end of the day bets thing is to hang out for a while and make your own mind up as to the qualities of other posters.

my suggestion has little to do with any auto-eroticism some may feel derives from "status" [consistently inverted] but stems from a perception that the nature of the forum has changed in the relatively short time i have been around.

?can quality be accurately reflected? would be interesting to see how this worked with some of the more frequent and excitable iBurst posters

?if titles are meaningless fillips to the ego then strip them all outside of admin and mods...

?is there value in the titles from the perspective of encouraging newbies to post / register? setting out a potential "career" path? remember there are lots of different kinds of folks out there united by desire for better telecomms

Yup, that's the general forum ethos as I see it - slightly irreverent, provocative, where holy cows are slaughtered for real nutritional value instead, and which all adds to its attraction. Been this way for some time now, IMHO – admittedly I’ve deliberately excluded the ‘unwired’ threads recently, for the simple reason that I became tired of the mostly inane chatter.

Agree with this, but that wouldn’t help the registration drive, come to think of it…

OK, I go along with this, given the diversity of potential types. Some ‘carrotising’ will possibly help. So… me supports a drive towards a review of ‘status’ indicators, coupled to some sort of quality measure, if easily achievable. (/there now, didn’t think I was capable of changing my mind, did you? see – I’m not that anal!)
