Everything for free?

Greetings,

Yes everything is free. We do not charge for hosting nor will we ever charge for hosting. Cybersmart is busy in discussions about releasing 100 FREE uncapped hosting to answer to Mweb's R19 uncapped offer but this is not certain yet.

We do have a 1gb disk space and 10gb data traffic for sites that require it. But this is done on a personal basis when the website owner asks and we see the need.

This is a FREE service provided by one of the largest ISP's in South Africa. Telkom has the Monopoly on telephone lines including the internet. What the ISP's are doing here is to provide free hosting so that as many internet sites as possible are hosted on their servers. By doing so each time a site is fetched by them it means they no longer use a telkom line to fetch the data and therefore do not have to pay data costs to telkom.

So in short it is here to stay. I have been going 11 months now and already host more than 120 high quality sites.

Design is done out of house, plus this is a temp website the full site is being developed, we're just getting it out there.

And what images are not loading???? Anyway guys it's free, what have you got to complain about?? How long are you going to spend on the landing page anyway?

Do not launch something until its done...... Free web hosting does not appeal to me, however cheap paid hosting does

I fail to see your point, the fact remains the system is in full swing. Just because the site is going under a re design does not mean it should not advertise.

All I can say is with all the negativity that is being projected here it makes one wonder why do it? Well the fact remains we have 120 odd sites that love the hosting system and you find me a SA based host for free with these specs ;D

You killing the market as there is a bunch of really good hosting companies out there, its like I give away free websites even though its more work etc but still you dont do it, its unethical to do business like this, just my 2 cents, rather charge like R9 or R20 or something

Try not to attack your detractors,it creates an air of hostility and makes the situation far less tenable than it should be. People here are more savvy and have been burnt by providers "fixing" site bugs etc on the fly when releasing it early with some awesome deal or price, then vanishing again,at least mention it's a pre-release view and get some advice before releasing ;)

No one will do it for free what you guys are doing, as hosting is like any other business needs to be profitable not a charity organization

Hi,

That is just archaic logic. If the resources are there to provide a service then why not? Sure maybe you want to charge, but our philosophy is simple.....

If we can do it, then do it.

Maybe you aren't used to getting stuff for free but times are changing. This is a way for the ISP's to lower their running costs which at the end of the day will be passed onto the end user at home.

So if someone said:

"Uncapped, unshaped ADSL for free"

You would rather pay the R400+pm for the service????? Nah don't think so!

There are many reasons not to give away free hosting, all of which I'm sure you'll find out soon.

From someone else in this business, I wish you all the best on your venture. :)

You are missing the point, all the ISP's are busy doing something to get their traffic away from telkom. Mweb just brought out uncapped hosting for R19 but no one is saying they are flooding the market. Cybersmart started this before mweb had even thought of the uncapped idea. And with the backing of Cybersmart this is not just about to vanish.

Well. I think it's good news. Dunno why everyone is complaining. If you don't want to use it, then don't. I think it's great.

To be honest mweb needs to pay me to host with them, you have a good idea although I would rethink my marketing strategy

Why not go for something like this

Get 3 months free hosting and then pay x per month or something like that, I will never sign up for a free hosting account, just because of some obvious reasons how long has Cybersmart been in business ?

Hi,

please don't get me wrong I am not being defensive I am just absolutely amazed at the negativity and total lack of support for a much needed system.
There are hundreds if not thousands of south africans that can not afford paid hosting. Why not just be positive about the initiative and who knows maybe in the
near future this would become the norm.

OK how about this......

Hosting provided for a donation, and all proceeds will be given to a charity that the users can choose via a poll? Donation can be any amount?
