100% premium web hosting for FREE... SA Servers

Well we now host over 400 websites. We're in the process of launching a new hosting solution with bigger and better deals and will run as a sister company. Will fill you in more when we are closer. Should be done this week.
 
Ok, so can you explain something to me. If you are using Cybersmart for everything, then why would we not cut out the middleman (in terms of Support time) and just go with them?
Plus, what are you getting out of this? Yes, I understand CYBERSMARTS reasoning for providing hosting for free, but I don't get what you "reselling" their stuff is helping YOU.

This sounds good to me and I am NOT going to complain because you're offering FREE hosting. I really think it's pointless (for those who are moaning) to start a flame-war just because you released free 'quality' (to be tested by myself) hosting while the hundreds and thousands of other local web hosting companies failed to come up with it first.

Profit made from hosting nowadays is seriously minute compared to profit that are made from the other products and services such as web design, CMS installation, SEO etc etc.

So let me give this a bash and I will write-up a formal review about my experience here...

(PS. you might want to change your title tags on the site - At the moment it's revealing a little something you don't want everyone to see)

He's really not the first to have done this. Many companies have offered free hosting in the past. Many hosting companies also closed down due to "unforseens circumstances". If you value your business then you surely shouldn't rely on a supplier (in this case a hosting company) who has no staff, no support, no backups, no protection (it costs money as well), no guarentees that your website will be alive tomorrow (look @ the countless reports on webhostingtalk about hosting companies who closed their doors overnight and the websites were offline the next day), or any funds to keep the company running.

IF offering completely free hosting was really such a deal breaker then you would have seen the larger companies offer it as well. But, can you imagine that StandardBank decided to use a free hosting company, to "save them a couple of million a year"? Would you enjoy it if the millions that Standard Bank saved on their hosting could drive down their bank charges? Sure, I would. but I wouldn't be happy if their free host went bankrupt due to the millions they saved in the process.

At least he's not hiding the fact that his company is, uhm, cheap!
 
But who the hell would launch a company site with valuable information on a free hosting account anyway? I see the concept of 'free hosting' as a way to experiment with different ideas and projects... just have fun with it.

A blog would be a bad idea as, as you said, there are no backups and the site might be gone tomorrow. But what about a static html site? That would be easy to keep backups of on your own PC so if anything goes wrong you don't lose much besides your 'free hosting'.

I would only recommend this for having fun and experimenting or better yet, using it to test out your live sites before utilizing paid reliable hosting.

The bottom line is, any company who's serious about business would invest in their website hosting just as much as they invest money in their offices. So the kind of people who actually use free hosting generally are: spammers, script kiddies, warez downloads, me-and-my-dog-type-websites (i.e. websites that don't actually make money off their websites), etc. I would generally not want those types of website, or rather clients, on my network to begin with. The me-and-my-dog-type-website owner also often tries out "funky new stuff" on his website which either breaks his website or causes high load or other load on the server, and expects 24/7/365 support as soon as he hit the sent button on his email client. Then they turn around and bad-mouth the hosting company when the support isn't as fast as they expected it to be.

But, this is old news. Any hosting company who's been around for at least 10 years would know what it was like when these freebies-hosting-companies sprouted up all around. Nothing new, just new customers who fall for the worst deals around :)

I'm not out to prove you wrong as I agree with you to the T. I'm serious about business and am going to put this to a test to see how long it will take before I experience any issues.

Well so far so good. I made use of the free .tk domain registration and registered metalmasons.tk (Metal Masons is side project I started where we have an 'inner circle' of artists who create flyers, logos, promo art and sites for bands.

The domain is now registered and I signed up for the free account. It got activated within 10 min of signing up and the gates have now opened. I'm going to put together a database driven site with a small portfolio of what Metal Masons had done so far and possibly even sell unused artwork to bands from there.

Let's see if this experiment will make me 100% profit! :P

Do you guys provide support for asp.net 2, 3.5 and/or 4?

I thought I'd give it a test and clicked on "order" on the hosting packages page, and it takes me to the forum. The domain check doesn't work either. I first thought, "okay, this is just the launch site" and came back to this forum, only to read further, and see it's the revised site.

The thing is even when something is free, it should still work properly.
 
Oh, I now see that you have register in a public forum, which includes giving out your email address. I thought everyone was being overly negative and critical, but unfortunately, now I feel the same way.
 
Just still interested why did you choose a .me domain? To me that says cybersmart isn't 'backing' you but merely your provider. All the best though.

May I ask where your servers are located? (Cape town datacentre?)
 
So, you have an edited template for a company website and you give webspace away? All the best.
