But volts do matter in this instance - since it will determine the arc gap required to effectively break the circuit. If you look at the post above with the breaker - you'll see that they wire them in series in order to meet the required arc gap.

Yes, but in this case it is manufactured exactly to work like that - they are not independent breakers - they do open at the same time.

The reason DC breakers are so big is they pull an arc and need arc quenchers which AC breakers don't due to the 0V of the sine wave.

Yes, it was Grade 8 science. Shows how dumbed down education has become. In Grade 9 you were producing hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysing water.
 
I think the point was that it does not make a big difference in terms of the size of the breaker, it's still a normal breaker compared to fridge sized breaker Cosmik was talking about.

DC pulls an arc when switching which is minimised in AC due to the 0 voltage 50 times a second of the sine wave. 1000 Volts DC will pull a serious arc when switching off.

Correct. Calculating the value of resistors and voltage in series and parallel. Grade 8 or Std 6 as we knew it.

Lower down it says total system voltage 1000V, which is reasonable, I have a 3 phase setup where my inverter can do about 800v, I stuck that system at 550v @ 16A though.

Look midway down - Max System Voltage - 1000VDC. Why would you need 800v when nothing you use is rated above 220VAC?

I bet your 220V household appliances really love getting a 550V supply...

I don't think you understand how to read the solar panel specs....1000V is very common now. I've attached enough pics for you above. They've even moved onto 1500V now. Here's an old article:
